Re: LSU explores academic bankruptcy
The State is having major budgeting issues. Basically we as a State have “tax exempt” ourselves into a major deficit and unfortunately most southern states (and from what I hear most states in general) cut from the education budgets first.
This of course causes people to say “what, y’all are making all this money form Football and can pay high coaches’ salaries! Why are y’all cutting from the academics side?”
Well the thing is that Football makes a profit, Baseball supports itself and pretty much everything else operates at a loss. Basically the Football revenues pays for every other sport. Also the majority of Les’ Salary comes from the TAF donations that have to be used for athletics and would not be made if Football wasn’t a religion to those writing the checks.
All in all it’s a tough time for us right now. The economy is good for the private sector because we give more tax breaks than any other state in the nation but as result the majority of government employees that are dependent on state funding (teachers, environmental agencies, etc.) are all on a pay freeze.
