Ashton Eaton and Brianne Theisen-Eaton retire

Post by greenyellow »

Aston Eaton and his wife, Brianne Theisen-Eaton, have both retired from track and field at the age of 28. Sounds like they've had enough of training and are ready to start having a family. I think many saw this coming after their coach said he'd be retiring after the Olympics and they said they were unsure if they'd be comfortable starting over with someone else. Some previous stories said they'd likely move away from Eugene since while a good place to train, Brianne wanted a place with a bit more snow (she is Canadian afterall.)

Return to Central Oregon, Brianne should be happy with all of our snow this year!

From a NY Times article, it sounds like they were looking at Colorado but that was from a few months ago so they may have decided on someplace else.

Ashton sounds like he's going to get into the tech world while I have no idea what she wants to do now. Retiring at 28 means they still have lots of time to do stuff. With the money they've both made from sponsors, they can take some time to see what they want.

End of a beautiful and rather brief era. Would have liked to have seen Eaton focus on one or two individual events to see what he could have done. Best to them both.

I'm sure there's a sport I could beat him at...like beer pong!

I don't suppose they'll get a place off Ashton Eaton Blvd?
