Really stinks too, he could've been a Duck.
Will be interesting to see if he can do anything in the NFL. He's pretty small. If I'm a GM, I wouldn't draft him before round 3. But I'm always skeptical of little fast dudes.
5'11 190 isn't that small. He's a hell of a lot bigger than DAT, and he's actually taller and weighs more than Cooks.

Crazy talk.
Yeah, I always undervalue little dudes. At almost every position. Even fast ones.
It's kind of an odd thing for an Oregon fan to do given guys like DAT and LMJ. But everyone's entitled to their opinion.
I was thinking more in line with the NFL in this particular conversation. In college, I believe in little fast dudes. Obviously, you want to get the best ones possible. Sure we've had a couple great ones, but we've had a couple great ones at most positions. So does most any big-time college football team. Neither DAT nor LMJ would have been worth a pick in the top 60 in the NFL. I guess we could maybe go back and look at DAT's draft year and try to decide if there ended up being 60 better players. I think the only case you could make for DAT is your team is already loaded but could use a specialist. But an NFL top 60 pick is a big-money gamble, and little fast dudes tend to have short careers.

Don't get me wrong, DAT and LMJ were a pleasure to watch. I especially loved LMJ. I think Verdell has a shot to be great too. I just have a weird thing about blockers and tacklers.

Verdell is already 195, he could easily be more like former Bruin Marcie Jones-Drew. I won't bet against him getting up to 210-215 and just being a bowling ball RB.

I didn't realize he measured that tall at the combine. Or that heavy. I was thinking back to the cfb season when people were saying he was 5'9.

Here's an article about the fastest NFL combine 40 times. I looked at a few articles, and out of the 15 fastest times ever run, only two players would have been worth the pick:

So what's the story on this? Is it true that he wanted to come to UO but was not offered? If so, any insights as to why he was not offered?

I'm fairly certain we offered and he did visit us at one point, but then we backed off for some reason. If I had to guess, the staff probably found a mildly insignificant red flag and decided not to pursue him.

Which is funny because the school know for speed missed out on the fastest player in combine history. Kinda makes me sick.

It's interesting to look back at recruiting threads on players who subsequently blow up. Looks like TheMaehlMan was the only one who saw his potential.

In another thread The MaehlMan also questioned if Ross had a commitable offer from Chip.

He said multiple times during the summer leading up to his Sr year, that he would commit to UO if the offered. We slow played him, meanwhile he committed to UW, and we missed out when we did offer. The staff was to arrogant with offers, and we lost out of guys who loved UO.

I see what you are saying but I could say the reverse and that is that after seeing the smaller guys excel at Oregon then not make it in the next level fans would double down in their resolve regarding smaller guys in the NFL

That's great, especially considering there were charity donations tied to his number of bench reps. I'm sure it benefited him as well having an outside motivation to perform well.

I wonder if he would have been able to do 24 if it weren't for his serious leg injury. Probably gave him a lot of time to focus on his upper body.
