Let's talk Portland summer league!

There's actually not a whole lot to talk about, because summer league is stupid and offers virtually no future indication on how a player will perform in real games. Over the last fifteen years I've seen Zach Randolph, Qyntell Woods, Jeryd Bayless, and Damian Lillard win summer league MVPs. Draw your own conclusions.

Portland is 1-1 after beating the Jazz and losing to the Celtics. The team is starting RJ Hunter, Pat Connaughton, Jake Layman, Caleb Swanigan, and Zach Collins.

No one has been good. Again, that doesn't mean anything. But through two games, it's true. Swanigan is winning over fans with his hustle and rebounding. He's averaging 10 & 10, but his shooting touch hasn't been there (33%). Collins is averaging 8 & 6, but he's shooting even worse (20%). He's getting double teamed in the post, which won't happen in the regular season, but thus far he's not been able to adjust to the extra pressure. Defensively he's been really good -- 3 blocks a game, solid interior work, forcing opposing wings to change directions, altering shots. He also needs to get stronger. Swanigan can back an opponent down. Collins can't.

Connaughton has been hot garbage, and it's looking more and more like he's going to get cut (team option) and replaced with some warm body making a minimum salary.

Layman is also MIA.

Brooks 24 points on 9-11 shooting, 4-5 on 3s. Also grabbed six rebounds, 2 steals and a block on the potential game tying 3 pointer.

5x5's are actually more rare than triple doubles, that's crazy and he signed for the minimum, just another steals for Golden State

only 18 5 X 5 in regular season NBA history and only 2 since 07. Jordan six blocks tie for second most in summer league history for one guy in a single game, Kent Bazemore had seven.

Bell also kicked two guys in the dick, officially putting Draymond on notice.

BEAST MAN A.K.A. JORDAN BELL with 16 rebounds and 3 blocks today, to go with 6 points and six turnovers. Elgin with his best game so far 12 points and 4 rebounds, 4 turnovers though. Ennis 1 point on 0-3 shooting

I knew a 16 would beat a 1 seed, blazers knock off number one seed Toronto with former Arizona Wildcat Nick Johnson leading the way. Jake Layman and Swanigan also had nice games.

Swanigan might end up leading the league in fouls per game, but he's definitely earned himself a rotation spot.
