Jim Wyatt was asked in his most recent mailbag about the progress of Jack Conklin from the ACL injury that he suffered in the playoff loss to the Patriots. Here was Wyatt’s answer:

Well, he’s making progress. Jack didn’t take part in the offseason work – he missed all the OTAs and minicamp. But he was on the field watching, and he looked good walking around. Titans coach Mike Vrabel said at his final minicamp presser he expects everyone to be ready for camp, with Conklin being the only exception. He mentioned PUP as a possibility. So I’m not necessarily expecting him at the start of camp on July 26. As for the start of the season, well, it’s too early for me to say about that quite yet.

There is little or no chance that Conklin will be ready for the start of training camp. However, my guess is that we won’t know anything about Conklin’s status until the day he is ready to go. Vrabel is very Belichickian in the way he gives out information.

The fact that Conklin likely won’t be ready for camp makes the contract situation with Taylor Lewan all the more important. It wouldn’t be great for the Titans to open training camp without either of their starting offensive tackles....in case that wasn’t obvious. I still believe that Lewan has a new contract before camp starts.

Dolphins 27 Titans 20. With weather delays it took about 7 hours to finish the game. Marcus looks like he hurt his hand for a while but he was in the next series...and threw an interception. Not a rousing start to the season. Next: Texans 0-1( lost to the Patriots) @ Titans 0-1.

He then hurt his elbow after the 2nd delay lifted so definitely not a good start to the season. Saw a bunch Titan fans complaining about his tendency to get injured (with many drawing comparisons to Jake Locker) and that they may need to get a different QB.

He also has a tendency to change coaches and offenses. Unfortunately, I think Tennessee may have failed to utilize him and he may never really pan out.

The fact they've gone through so many HCs and OCs in just the past 4 years should show that Tennessee is one of the worst run franchises in the league. I do think people should probably give them some time to get on the same page.

It was a dirty game - LT Lewan got knocked out when he got blindsided. Then a Miami player went for Marcus' knees well after he handed the ball off to Henry. If the opposing player is trying to take you out of the game, it won't matter if you're Locker or Brady - you're probably going to get hurt.
The justifications for not giving a personal foul on that play is baffling. First you have to delineate between a QB who may be running an option play and one who is not (technically all QB's are running an option play even when they hand it off). So does this mean that DE's and OLB's can hit QB's well after the ball is handed off? What a BS no call by the officials.

They're also not giving Mariota any time to adjust to the new scheme. The fans are thirsty and coming off a playoff win but it's unrealistic to expect results this quickly. Their roster has also already taken multiple hits so there's that....

Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's season opener against the Miami Dolphins.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, he dislocated his ankle and suffered an associated fracture, causing his season to be "almost certainly over."

Walker had been carted off after his ankle "looked to bend at an awkward angle," per reporter Paul Kuharsky.

With Marcus on the sideline, the Titans evened their record with a 20-17 win over the now 0-2 Texans. A field goal with 1:00 left put the Titans on top, and Deshaun Watson wasted time as the clock ran out looking for a receiver.

Marcus Mariota came off the bench and directed three scoring drives, including one in the fourth quarter, and Tennessee beat Jacksonville 9-6 Sunday for their third straight victory in the series.
Mariota replaced Blaine Gabbert in the first quarter after Gabbert was knocked out of the game with a concussion.
Mariota sat out last week's victory against Houston because of an elbow injury sustained in the season opener.
Mariota had been experiencing arm weakness along with numbness and tingling in two fingers. The injury affects the velocity and spin he gets on the football.
Mariota wore a glove on his injured right hand and was able to do just enough to beat the Jaguars (2-1) for the third straight time and fifth time in the past six meetings.
Mariota completed 12 of 18 passes for 100 yards and ran for 51 more, including a 15-yard gain on a third-and-1 play late.
The Titans (2-1) milked the clock from there and ended up celebrating an early lead in the AFC South.
Blake Bortles had one final chance to rally Jacksonville, but did little to get into field-goal range with 19 seconds remaining.

The Titans came out firing on Sunday afternoon, giving us some flashes of what could be with this offense under Matt LaFleur. We really haven’t seen much of it due to injuries up front and to Marcus Mariota.

Early on, that changed today. Mariota is finally getting healthy and it showed. LaFleur dialed up multiple shots down the field to Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor. The connection wasn’t quite there, however.

Mariota missed a wide open Davis, which should have been six, then Jonnu Smith had a key drop to stop the first drive. The Titans settled for three points to open the game.

Mariota came back on the next drive with a good ball to Taylor down the middle of the field deep, but contact forced an incomplete pass. So early on, the Titans missed two opportunities to get into the endzone.

After dominating much of the first half, Tennessee found themselves trailing. A deep strike to Jordan Matthews put the Eagles ahead midway through the second quarter. It was Malcolm Butler once again giving up the deep ball.

With the seconds winding down in the first half, Mariota tossed a pick, giving the Eagles a shot to add to their lead. Luckily for the Titans, that was only three points.

Philadelphia took a 10-3 lead into halftime.

They immediately added to it coming out of the break. A long drive ended with an Alshon Jeffery touchdown, who reeled in a jump ball against LeShaun Sims. Sims was playing for Adoree’ Jackson, who exited the game during the previous play.

It didn’t take Mariota long to strike back, however. An efficient drive brought the Titans right back into this one as Mariota scrambled into the endzone to bring it back to a seven point game.

The Titans needed a big play defensively — and they got one. It was Harold Landry with the sack fumble, giving Tennessee another chance to close the gap. They were able to add another field goal, bringing the Eagles’ lead to 17-13.

Nelson Agholor dropped a pass on third and six, forcing the Eagles to punt back to the Titans with eight minutes to play.

A 51 yard Corey Davis catch followed that, setting the Titans up with a golden opportunity to take the lead. And they did just that. Mariota found Tajae Sharpe to go up 20-17 with just five minutes to play.

It was a quick three and out for Carson Wentz, who failed to connect with Zach Ertz on third down. The Eagles punted once more, handing the Titans a chance to put this one on ice with 2:45 to play.

A quick screen to Davis put the Titans in a third and three situation, but the Titans couldn’t convert on the following play. They went back to Davis on another screen, but didn’t get the blocking that they needed.

Wentz got the ball inside Titans’ territory following a big time return on the punt. A screen to Jeffery got them inside of the redzone with just one minute to play. However, the defense held, forcing a fourth and three with 21 seconds to play.

Jake Elliott split the sticks to tie things up, which sent us to overtime.

The Eagles would get the ball to open. It was Jay Ajayi getting things rolling, picking up a first down off the bat. Wentz came back with a pass to Jeffery for another chunk, then it was Ajayi getting down into the redzone.

The Titans bent, but didn’t break. Dean Pees’ group go the stop on third down, forcing another Elliott field goal. The Eagles now led 23-20, meaning the Titans had to answer on their next drive.

Mariota delivered a bomb right on the money to Darius Jennings, who dropped it. That ball would have put the Titans in field goal range at least.

Instead, the Titans were faced with a third and ten. Mariota threw incomplete to Davis, bringing up fourth and ten. A penalty made it fourth and 15. With the ballgame on the line, Mariota converted. It was Taywan Taylor on a 15 yard out, keeping the Titans alive.

They were faced with another fourth down just minutes later, which they were able to convert with the help of a pass interference call. But a negative play on a pitch and a sack set up third and long.

Mariota scrambled for 16 yards — enough for a Ryan Succop field goal attempt. Or so we thought. Vrabel changed his mind after an Eagles timeout and went for it. It was Dion Lewis catching a dump off and barreling down to the Eagles 15.

Time became a factor now with just 20 seconds to go. Mariota fired two incompletions, setting up third down. But he found Corey Davis in the endzone on the next play.

It was a floater that Davis snatched out of the sky to beat the defending Super Bowl champs.

Final Score: Titans 26, Eagles 23
