Markieff Morris fined $15,000 for grabbing Seth Curry's shorts late in Blazers' loss to Wizards

Curry raced to the corner in front of Wizards' bench as the final play of regulation unfolded. When Lillard drove toward the hoop, Curry stationed at the three-point line, poised to gather a pass in case Lillard looked his way. Morris, who had been pulled from the game, crouched in front of the Wizards' bench and twice tugged at Curry's shorts, presumably to distract and/or deter Curry during the play. Curry reached back and threw his arms up after the initial tug, but officials did not see it occur live.

i'm trying not to make too big a deal of it, but at the same time that seems like a ridiculously light penalty. a player on the bench interfered with a play on the court. that's not nothin', though the nba seems to think it's hardly above a verbal slap on the wrist.

It is a ridiculous amount when you consider how much a player is fined for simply leaving the bench. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/blaz ... tercation/
"During an altercation, all players not participating in the game must remain in the immediate vicinity of their bench. Violators will be suspended, without pay, for a minimum of one game and fined up to $35,000." And this was a pre-season game.

If Morris did that to a WNBA player he might be accused of sexual assault. I still don't understand why Rondo, Paul and Ingram weren't arrested for their fight.

As far as the Blazers go, I thought the hazard of playing Nurk late showed in the loss. He can't cover anyone outside and they had 2 guys worth a darn from outside in Morris and Beal and they did a bad job of playing them.

Blazers 128 Magic 114, 3-1. The Blazers did what they seem to have made a habit the last couple of seasons; lose a weird game at home to a team from the east, but bounce back with a solid game the next time. Lillard led the way with 41, setting a team record for most points in a half; 34. McCollum had 22, 18 for Nurkic, along with 10 rebounds. Next: @ Miami, Saturday.

If Collins can stay on the court for more than 20 minutes a game, he could become a legit 3rd option for this team and an actual defensive oriented player. 4 fouls in 18 minutes tonight but also 17 points and 2-2 from deep.

Collins is awesome. Rare to have a big man who can score and stretch, but also get steals and blocks.

So refreshing for a change! But ya less fouls I would be nice but he is a breathe of fresh air given the kind of big men we’ve drafted in the last like decade.

The Blazers dug a deep hole against the Heat. Had a 3 point lead for an instant, but ended up losing by 9. Lillard has scored 40+ the last two games, and is the second leading scorer currently: Curry 38.9, Lillard 38.8. Next: @ Indiana. Blazers 3-2 Pacers 4-2.

Portland 103 Indiana 93. Maybe the best game overall this season. Indiana came in to the game averaging 61% shooting, Portland held them to 41%. Dillard didn't come close to 40 in this one, 16. But the Blazers had 7 in double figures, McCollum & Collins, 17, Lillard 16, Turner 13, Aminu 11, Caleb Swanigan had a double double, 11 points, 10 rebounds, Stauskas 10. Turner also had 8 rebounds, Aminu had 10 rebounds. Portland's bench scored 54, Indiana, 15.

Trying not to get hopes up, but the shooting tonight, coupled with significant contributions from Collins and Swanigan (!) are very encouraging. Even Evan Turner has been looking a little better lately. I wonder how much of this is a function of having better perimeter shooting. Hopefully they can keep it up.

Standings in the west are obsurd right now. 8 teams .571+ and it doesn't include the Rockets, Timberwolves, Thunder or Lakers.

Blazers 104 Rockets 85 If you can measure a player's value by how much his team misses him James Harden has a good chance of winning the MVP again. I don't know how many games he's missed this season, but it's been more than tonight's and the Rockets are 1-5.
On the second of a back to back the Blazers led this one from the start, reaching a high lead of 28. It got down to 16 with about 3:00 to go in the game. The announcers were thinking is Stotts going to have to bring some of the starters back in? But Stauskas drilled a 3 to push the lead to 19, and that answered the question.
Lillard & Nurkic finished with 22. McCollum 19, Stauskas rounded out the double digits with 10. Blazers finish up the road trip, 3-1, 5-2 on the season. Up next: New Orleans Thursday @ The Moda Center.
