I think the bigger issue is the $200M+ in estimated settlement funds the university is having to set aside for the abusive student health ObGyn doctor they continued to support for years on end. $215M is the number USC is giving but I’d wager to bet it’ll blow by that number easily when all is said and done.lukeyrid13 wrote:Also because Helton has 5 years and like 18 million left on his contract. It would be a very costly firing.
Who’s gonna be next HC at USC? Edit: Helton returning

Wow, that’s an unreal settlement.

Doctor was on staff for like 30 years. Reading the little bit I have about it, $215M is quite a conservative number in the eyes of many. To make matters worse, while insurance would normally handle any settlements, I believe USC is self insured.

USC keeps Helton as HC
USC released a statement today saying that Helton will remain the HC but he'll have to make a lot of changes to avoid a repeat of what happened this season.

To be fair, that’s what cost helfrich his job here. He did an abysmal job by hiring pellum and hoke.Alan wrote:I wonder how deep Helton will take the axe to his assistant.....
Had he hired Todd Orlando 5 years ago like many on this hoard were hoping for, he might still be here. Having guys like: yost, Frost, allioti and greateood helped buoy MH for a few years before his overall flaws were showing. Same with Taggart, hire enough good assistants and you yourself end up looking good.

Helton may be back next year but the supporting cast will be vastly different. OC Tee Martin, DL coach Kenechi Udeze and DB coach Ronnie Bradford are already fired with several other changes expected. One new rumor is Kliff Kingsbury as OC. Wonder if he would bring his assistant offensive coaches with him?

According to Gil Brandt, Kingsbury has received several NFL job offers so I expect him to take one of those rather than become USC's OC.

The thread should be renamed “who doesn’t get fired”.
Good luck to Helton putting together a staff. Dude is starting the season sitting on an inferno masked as a seat and is a 2-2 start away from probably being canned. What assistant worth a damn is going to sign up for that? The only way they’ll get anyone is if they sign assistants to guaranteed multi-year deals. Hopefully Oregon can scoop up a Kyle Ford, Bru McCoy, KT trio out of the USC mess.

The college phones seem to be working as well. Was told by college HC that USC is now the clear front-runner for Kingsbury. As these things tend to go, stay tuned. But for now, USC in drivers seat with OC opening.

It's now a matter of which does he prefer: college or the NFL.
