Cool. But I don't see how this helps either team.
Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I think Grizzlies win with the picks/swaps though. Sonics are really leveraged on picks now, and it's looking like Tisdale won't become a top 10-15 scorer to lead them which appeared to be the case a year ago.

Also, looks like the Sonics are going to have hardcap concerns next season. They should look to offload someone to help alleviate that.

Yeah so if swap doesn’t convey Grizzlies get Sonics 89. If it does then Grizzlies get Pacers 89.

For 1990, if swap doesn’t convey, Grizzlies have first choice between their pick in 90 and Sonics pick in 90. If it does, then Grizzlies get first choice between their pick in 90 and Pacers pick in 90. If this second swap doesn’t convey (Grizzlies pick is better) nothing happens.

This is where im lost. Why do the Pacers lose in this situation? Pacers have 1st dibs on the swap should it convey

Sorry, I think convey is being mixed up here.

Basically Pacers have 1st dibs with the swaps and then my pick and swap are applied to whatever the Sonics have after the Pacers get their 1st dibs

“First choice” as in first choice between Grizzlies pick and whatever the Sonics have after their swaps w Pacers

If we assume "min" means draft #, aka min is a "better" pick

In 89/90, Pacers get min(Pacers, Sonics).
In 89, Grizzlies get max(Pacers, Sonics)
In 90, Grizzlies get min(Grizzlies, max(Pacers, Sonics))
In 90, Sonics get max(Grizzlies, max(Pacers, Sonics))

Hope that helps!

This was the original trade.

Pacers send:
Phil Ford

Sonics send:
1987 Warriors first rounder
1988 Sonics first rounder (Top 7 protected, then 1989 Top 7 protected, then 1990 unprotected)
1987 Blazers second rounder
1987 Warriors second rounder
1988 Sonics second rounder
1989 pick swap (if it doesn’t convey becomes second rounder that year)
1990 pick swap (if it doesn’t convey becomes second rounder that year)

I should have first pick in both 89/90 and then if the 88 first is top 7 then the swaps keep getting pushed back. Unless I'm missing something.

Yeah you do! Sorry this is causing confusion. Anything the Sonics and I did with the swaps is after you swap with them first. You have first pick in both 89/90 between your pick and Sonics pick.
