According to 247, Will Murphy has been invited

Post by woundedknees »

to Philly for the Eagles' training camp (per his brother's FB page)... What an opportunity, for a great young man!

What percentage of the graduating Ducks have now been drafted or picked up as UDFA's?

It has to be an Oregon record.

He became serviceable his senior year. Don't think he makes it.

Chip Kelly must like something about his work ethic.

Yes, that is probably it. I think down the road he will be a good coach if he is so inclined. He had some good blocks this last season.

It's definitely the blocking. They talked about him being a monster on the db's and that's why he kept getting playing time. Chip probably wants him there to set an example as to what he is looking for in his WR blocking scheme.

Does anyone think DeSean Jackson puts a single block on anyone this season? Personally I don't see it happening.

Absolutely love this. Murphy would catch ten yard passes for first downs where he got like one step after the pass before getting tackled, but it was enough for a first down. The guy may not the fastest (understatement) but he knows how to play good football. He blocks hard on the plays he is in and as such most defenders initially try to get off of him thinking he will be between them and the ball. So eventually he will get open for a first down.

Would put money on Murphy blocking more than DeSean. The fact that this is even a conversation is just so freaking awesome.

Someone that knows more than me can correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember that Murphy was one of our fastest 2 or 3 players the years he was here.

DeSean is really excited to play for Chip actually. It would be stupid to make DJ a primary blocker but he'll put the work in. Besides, that is why Chip traded for Arrellious Benn so that he could have another physical WR on the roster to do the blocking. I mean, shoot, if only DeAnthony had put a single block on someone in the Stanford game...

I agree with this. He knows what Jackson's strengths are and will put him in a position to succeed. He will definitely have to block, but it's not like Chip will bench him if he's not great at it.

Jackson won't be confined to running fly-patterns all game long, and Chip will give him the ball in-space. I also think Maclin will do work in that offense if he can stay healthy. Chip is probably happy that he came into a situation where he didn't have to scour the draft and free agency for playmakers.

Good for him as he'll be in T.C. and should possibly play in some preseason games. This means he might have a good shot of making the practice squad for the regular season.

I understand being on the practice squad still gives you a very nice paycheck. Jeff Maehl made $100K a year being on the ps. Not too shabby.

I'm guessing its more than that. I had a buddy who went to the 9ers camp 3 years in a row, getting cut everytime before the end of pre season, and still made $75k a year for being in camp.
