Sorry for the late start, long day that included the ALS ice bucket challenge, that was cold.
Oregon's second win came against Virginia in a big road game. This was the first real test, and there were questions about how Oregon would do. This was Helf's first test after all. In week 1, Virginia beat BYU and showed that they weren't a team you can overlook. Would this be a repeat of the 2009 BSU fiasco in Chip's first game? The answer came pretty quickly that it most certainly wasn't. The fact was, Oregon had far too much speed for Virginia. It was almost comical at times watching Virginia defenders try to keep up with De'Anthony Thomas. In a few highlights, you can see MLB #44, Henry Coley, just get burned by the likes of DAT and Bralon Addison, and it's hilarious to see how much slower he is than the speedy weapons on the Oregon offense. While Virginia did build a little bit of momentum in the second quarter after the hot Oregon start due to missed tackles and sloppiness from Oregon, it wasn't near enough to give them anywhere near a legitimate chance to come out victorious. Oregon cruised to an easy 59-10 win on the road and looked like they may be one of the most talented teams in the nation with a healthy Mariota, DAT, Addison, and Lyerla.
Highlights included the opening drive, which on a 3rd and 5 on the Oregon 28 yard line, Mariota sped by the Virginia defense on his way to a 72 yard touchdown run. Before this play, the crowd was pumped, on their feet, and making noise thinking that their Cavaliers might be able to stop Oregon on their opening drive, and how deflating it must've been for them to see Mariota sprinting down the middle of the field untouched for a touchdown.
Addison continued to show how much he improved from the previous season. He continued to show great hands and impressive running after receptions.
DAT was unbelievable this game. Virginia defenders had no chance at catching him at times. It was amazing how they focused on him so much, but that didn't even matter, because his agility and speed was far too much. This game was an example of just how special he truly was.

I was at the game and the best quote from a UVA fan was "How can we compete against them when our safeties are smaller and slower than their QB". As soon as MM had the 72 yard TD run, the crowd went silent and never really got back into the game.

Yea the MM run was EPIC. You could feel (even over the TV haha) all the air leave the stadium in seconds. The camera flip to the crowd and the girl slumping down to the ground pretty much sums up the entire game. A total mismatch but highly entertaining if your a Duck fan!

UVA DC Jon Tenuta had a good game-plan going in but it was clear he didn't have the athletes to compete.

This is why I love these type of games. Gives teams across the country a chance to get a taste of Oregon football.Oregon Ownage wrote:I was at the game and the best quote from a UVA fan was "How can we compete against them when our safeties are smaller and slower than their QB". A fun game to rewatch.
