Royce Freeman embraces Oregon’s Straddled Triple Option

Post by FishDuck »

It was great fun to see this play being used again after primarily sitting on the shelf the last two years. It makes sense that it be utilized with three superb RBs, and it is thrilling to see Freeman fit into the play so easily in his first start. We have not covered this play since the site began over three years ago!

I was hoping we would bring the 2 back set back since we have such capable RBs this year.

I also liked that we used the WR screen as option on some plays as well. That play killed Stanford in 2010 but we haven't used it much in the last year or two.

While I think we have had better RB's in the past, our current group may turn out to be the best RB combo in Oregon history. While in the past we had a great mix, I don't know if we've ever had 3 different RB's that are so great and capable of doing so many things. Like the article said, you never know which way the play will go because each RB is capable of doing the same thing in spectacular fashion. This is going to be a fun year to watch the offense.
