The reason I liked watching the ducks was mostly the pace of the offense. I don't know if FSU invented it but the first time I ever saw the two minute offense used as a regular offense was 1992 Charlie Ward began using it on a every down basis following a win at Ga Tech where we used it to come from behind in the 4th quarter and the "Fast Break" offense was coined by Bobby Bowden because of Charlie's point guard skills on the basketball court. We used it to win a NC in 93 but then came Danny Kanell and we went back the the "normal" offense. Oregon is by far the best at it I think in the country now.

The inventor of the "hurry up, no huddle" offense was Sam Wyche when he was head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. He took them to a Super Bowl with it in 1988.NativeNole wrote:The reason I liked watching the ducks was mostly the pace of the offense. The zone read was originally created by Rich Rodriguez of Arizona and Bill Snyder of Kansas State. Urban Meyer created his own version of it after learning from them and went on to have great success at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and now, Ohio State.

I agree that Oregon is by far the best in the country at running it now, though RichRod at Arizona has earned a lot of respect for what he's accomplished at Arizona, as well. Mark Helfrich, Scott Frost and Chip Kelly have tweaked it here and there over the years so as not to become too predictable. You pretty much have to or other teams will catch up.

Pretty sure the hurry up O was invented in the 40s, and has been used from time to time since then, but not to the extent it is now. Houston Cougs used it for a while, and the bills used the no huddle for the most part to get to 4 strait SB. But it has certainly take. A huge jump the last 10 years in college football.NativeNole wrote:The reason I liked watching the ducks was mostly the pace of the offense.
