Not just Mariota's, but is it a can of worms Oregon wants to open? What about Harrington's, Fouts, Darren Thomas? Thomas got us to a national title game.

Too many players in college to eliminate numbers. And some kids really like a certain number if it ain't available what then?

Yeah I'm OK with it if the criteria is very strict. I wouldn't want more than one or maybe two players a decade retiring their numbers. And if that's the case, then there will be much debate who is deserving, blah blah...DmoneyDuck wrote:Only retire Heisman winners numbers.
Probably best we just don't.

I would say no. I know there are schools that do it. I think with all the kids in school is best to not retire numbers. I realize are great players but leave it to the pros to do it. In regards to being just Heisman winners then eliminate pretty much any defensive players. I don't think that would be fair to them. I know Mariota is worthy consideration but I still say no.

No. That just seems to go against our mantra that the team is bigger than the player.

Isn't there already an Oregon HOF to boot?pezsez1 wrote:No. That just seems to go against our mantra that the team is bigger than the player.
And just because Taylor's does it is no reason for the Ducks...

I say do a Ring of Ronor inside Autzen to commemorate certain players. You can honor players and their numbers but still leave them open for players to wear.

bingo, does a nice job of showing the program's history without pulling numbers out of rotationgreenyellow wrote:I say do a Ring of Ronor inside Autzen to commemorate certain players. You can honor players and their numbers but still leave them open for players to wear.

I am torn, but his jersey(s) would look very nice on display near his trophy.DmoneyDuck wrote:Only retire Heisman winners numbers.

You could still hang his jersey without retiring the number.goducks wrote:I am torn, but his jersey(s) would look very nice on display near his trophy.DmoneyDuck wrote:Only retire Heisman winners numbers.

Not fair to the defensive player that wears the mate to that number. In this case, Daniels.
