Oregon going to 4-3 defense?
Duck Territory has a VIP article about Oregon possibly using a 4-3 defense next season more often due to the DL depth and the type of LBs they have on the roster. May also be switching to it more because of the difficulties in recruiting LBs and the need to use their LB depth more effectively.

While the coaches have had trouble recruiting at LB, I don't think schematically its anywhere near as hard finding the right DL to be able to 2 gap. Of course as we saw we can have those DL and still be weak in the run because of the LBs.greenyellow wrote:Duck Territory has a VIP article about Oregon possibly using a 4-3 defense next season more often due to the DL depth and the type of LBs they have on the roster. I'd be stoked just to see more sub-packages, I guess if I have a slight preference its the 43 but that would be because I think 1-gapping is simply easier and quicker to do and I don't think we've done a good job using the 34 to disguise looks.

Should be fun watching us rush 3 on 3rd and long out of a 4-3.

A recruit mentioned Oregon using four down linemen, according to 247.

I can't wait to see a guy like Canton at DE in a traditional 4-3. Should be fun to watch.

Canton would likely play DT or possible SDE in the 4-3 from what I've heard.

It wouldn't surprise me if we went to that formation. Esp. considering the types of linebackers that Pellum recruits.

So has there been more legs to us switching to a 4-3 defense?

He and Buckner (Jelks possibly) are the two guys you move around on that front line to keep things mixed up and to play to their strengths and the situation. We want to keep the 2 of them in as many 1 v 1 matchups as we can find.GrantDuck wrote:Canton would likely play DT or possible SDE in the 4-3 from what I've heard.
