It has been a rough week, but Rob's practice notes for today mention the addition of a few walk-ons from an open tryout.
Blake Rugraff is one of these walkons. He's a linebacker from a St. Louis-area high school, and he was one of the leading tacklers in the state of Missouri over the past few years.
Cool story here about what led him to be an Oregon Duck: https://stlpreps.wordpress.com/2015/05/ ... g-you-had/

The next Brent Haberly?
We could really use some hard-nosed walk-ons out there tackling. Somebody on the roster has to be able to tackle consistently @ the LB positions.

You have to wonder if that is what is happening, over the last several years things have become routinely easy in the mind of some of the younger players and maybe a sense of entitlement or just not putting forth the effort and without a QB to have this offense firing on all cylinders the pressure is on the defense like it has never been, and these players just don't have a hard edge to them, not to mention this conference is the deepest it has ever been and probably the deepest in the Country. What happened to the blue collar thing, is that still a thing with this team, doesn't seem like it.

Sorry, this is supposed to be an uplifting post and I went and posted something negative. I think that is great, hopefully there are a few guys who can show some grit and see the field and make a difference.

Personally, I love that Rugraff is giving it his best shot.
Maybe it will light a fire under some of the other player's posteriors... If not, follow the Lee Iacocca mantra: "LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!"

Between Rugraff and Kaulana Apelu, who has already seen the field as a true freshman, those are about as good of walk-on linebackers as you could ever hope for.
