In a pinch, but there has to be somebody really good out there. Unsure how welcome he would be at Oregon.

Re: Wilcox for DC?
I stated in an earlier thread that he will make our defense better but not elite. I'm fine with him as a hire cause I think he is an improvement but I don't think he's a home run hire. Just a solid double

Re: Wilcox for DC?
The thing I like about Wilcox, is that despite his relatively young age (39), this is his 10th season as a defensive coordinator.

I'm not anti Wilcox. He's had some pretty good squads at BSU.

Re: Wilcox for DC?
Not him please. There's got to be somebody better out there. He teaches the players to take dirty shots and Oregon doesn't need that reputation. Plus, he jumps ship at the drop of a hat. No thank you.............

If there was a way to get Peter Sirmon on staff to coach the ILBs, I'd be all for that.

I think we should hire Ray Lewis as our new Defensive Coordinator. What could go wrong?!?!

Re: Wilcox for DC?
So the USC defense we just toasted, with all their talent (albeit with some injurines), is what you want?

Re: Wilcox for DC?
Look at their whole schedule, compare it to ours. Wilcox's defense was much more successful.EncinitasDuck wrote:So the USC defense we just toasted, with all their talent (albeit with some injurines), is what you want?
Points given up against common opponents:
vs ASU: USC 14 UO 55
vs Stanford USC 41 UO 36
vs Utah USC 24 UO 62
vs Colorado USC 24 UO 24
vs Cal USC 21 UO 28
vs UW USC 12 UO 21
Average USC 22.6 UO 37.6
Out of 6 common opponents, USC's defense performed better in 4 games, even in 1, worse in 1. USC gave up an average of 22.6 points, while UO gave up 37.6. Oregon's average time of possession is 27:34. USC's average time of possession is 29:17.
So, even accounting for time of possession, Oregon's defense gives up around ~50% more points in an average game.
Responding more directly to your question Encinita, it's hard to predict how well our D would fare against our O. But it's also not relevant--what matters is how well the defense performs versus our competitors offenses, and Wilcox's D drastically outperformed Pellum's.
