Actually you can play immediately if a hardship waiver is approved . Ex. Arsalan kazemi from rice and Johnny raging from cal

Not anymore - they changed the rule April 2014, and it went into effect for 2015-16 season - here is the first article that popped up in quick search but you can look at the new rule too on NCAA website
