Hypothetical: Would You Be Happy if Oregon Hired Art Briles?
This is just a crazy, "off the top of my head" question. I saw on ESPN earlier today where Art Briles says he expects to be coaching somewhere in 2017.
Let's say the Ducks seriously fell apart this season and finished at 6-6 or 7-5. I don't expect major things every year, but that would be a big step back and very hard to swallow, especially considering the exceptional offensive talent they have. We "should" win at least 9-10 games this season, maybe more. To finish around .500 would be a major disappointment and, barring major injuries, it would also be a sign that the program was heading in the wrong direction.
Briles would be an excellent fit for Oregon's offensive talent. Besides his questionable character issues, one drawback with him would be retaining the continuity of the staff.
Once again, all I'm doing here is "making conversation" and throwing this out there. Personally, I don't like the idea. If he really knew what was happening to those girls at Baylor and didn't do anything about it, then he's the lowest form of fecal matter.
Still, his coaching ability can't be denied, and he'd also have an excellent pipeline into Texas for recruiting.
Thoughts?

I dont care how good of an offensive coach he is..He just does not fit what
we have come to expect of a coach and how his team conducts its self on and
off the field.

The people have spoken! Lol
I agree 100%, I just thought I'd throw it out there. College football is BIG business in this day and age, so nothing would really surprise me, though I sincerely doubt that Rob Mullins would go there.

I don't have a problem with him, he's just not an "Oregon guy" whereas Helf is. I don't get the sense Oregon is a stepping stone for Helf, this IS his final destination in his mind. Much as I respect what Chip did for the Ducks and his obvious contributions making us into a national power, who didn't feel he had one foot out the door ever since he stepped in the door? I'd rather have a Helf than a Briles, its better for our program.

I'd be livid. This isn't Louisville.

I'm totally with you regarding Helfrich. My "hypothetical" was only based on if the program took a turn for the worse.

Are you telling me that you wouldn't want Bobby Petrino either?StevensTechU wrote:I'd be livid. This isn't Louisville.

Honestly, if the program really did take a turn for the worse, then I'd rather keep Help for another year anyway and see how Chip Kelly does in San Francisco.

Well, we can always bring in Sandusky if he ever gets out!

Hmmm...I'm not sure how welcome Chip would be, honestly. He didn't have a good relationship with most Alumni and there's a good chance the Ducks would have been slapped with sanctions if he'd remained at Oregon before.pezsez1 wrote:Honestly, if the program really did take a turn for the worse, then I'd rather keep Help for another year anyway and see how Chip Kelly does in San Francisco.

That's a little extreme. We're not even in the vicinity of discussing minors or little boys here. That's really sick.
