Ducks Defense will only get better

Post by jimmy12 »

Arguably their two best DTs did not play.

Dye is a monster and will continue to get better.

Hollins showed us all what he can do when he's healthy (praying he stays that way).

Graham and Lenoir are the real deal.

Brady Breeze (who likely would have started if healthy) will be back too.

Any my surprise of the game, Billy Gibson. Dude is a dog. He hits and play with some great speed.

There is a lot to be excited about next week.

Did I miss anything?

I thought Moi was awesome too. I can see why the coaches gave him a single digit number. He's legit talent.

Good shout out. He was disruptive off the edge.

I didn't notice Fotu or FatMac very much

Take away a silly mistake by Springs and TBJ and Southern Utah only scores 7 points on their opening drive. The defense has potential and flies to the ball, they just need to clean up silly mistakes and Springs needs to stop backing up as soon as the ball is snapped.

Fat Mac will never stand out much because of the position he plays. That said, he looked good early, was often taking on double teams, but was noticeable gassed and getting pushed backwards towards the end of the game. Having Pagano and Young join the rotation should help him stay fresh longer, but he still has a lot of conditioning work to do.

I didn't notice Fotu either, though I thought Winston flashed some real talent.

Fotu was very active on the first defensive drive. he had a good play or two but he was also not very disciplined and he was one of the main reasons they scored the TD. I didn't see him much after that.

I think Fotu missed a few tackles early on but he also delivered a hit or two later as well. On their 1st or 2nd TD when the runner tried going to the right and ended up going to the left, I think Fotu had a chance to make a play.

Okay, after the kick off return to see SUU march down the field and tie the score was sickening. But, only two more scores, none in the second half was beyond great The defense played with an attitude, they wanted to, "Do something!". Last season it didn't matter the team, receivers ran loose all over the field, running backs chewed up yardage, 3rd & 38? Didn't matter. But not this defense.
The best thing I heard from Coach Taggart was when he told the DB's, 'Randy Moss isn't out there, get up on 'em" The prevailing wisdom is that the most improvement is from game 1 to game 2, I can hardly wait!

Imho this D is already better than the won 9 games two years ago. And the O isn't far behind that O.

Fat Mac clogged up the middle all by himself. Rewatch the game and see what I mean. He didn't get any sacks but they couldn't run up the middle because he was creating a log jam there.

Fotu had 5 tackles. Played pretty well.

I don't think TBJ was on the field after his second fumble until the fourth quarter or if he was.. he did not touch the ball. I think some of that was a statement by the coaches. Ball security and flags have to be corrected. We gave up to many first downs because of penalties.
