Who will be our feature running back next year?
..and going forward.
TBJ is the obvious guy as a senior, but is he a 25 carries kind of dude that can run up the middle?
CJ Verdell is maybe our up the middle guy next year?
Elliot is coming off a major injury and Travis Dye is a 3*...

It will be a big chance for someone to win and TBJ will obviously get the first crack at it. Outside of Herbert there will still be some unproven positions where we need players to step up and stand out. I'd like to see CJ win it though as he seems like he could be a guy who can do everything at the position.

I've heard Verdell was going to play this year but he got hurt. Felix has looked good, he just needs to protect the football better.
You also forgot about Cyrus. He's a bigger dude.

TBJ will be our Jeremiah Johnson 12-18 carry starting back, the competition will for the complimentary back. If a younger back doesn't step into the role I could see Taj moved back to running back.

TBJ gets hurt every other game, I doubt he'll be able to holdup long enough to be the man. It will be Felix and Cj by mid season.

It is called "running back by committee." No one guy is going to get Royce like carries. For those up the middle runs, the ideal choice would be Verdell. He is short and big enough (and getting bigger) to make that work. And, Taj needs to get some work in there... would be a waste if he doesn't.

I hope we sub more next year. As of now, we give a RB a whole series each. I'd prefer to sub them out and keep them fresh every 3 plays or so.

I think that will be more likely since they won't be obligated to give Royce the touches he needs to break the records.lukeyrid13 wrote:I hope we sub more next year. As of now, we give a RB a whole series each. I'd prefer to sub them out and keep them fresh every 3 plays or so.

I'd love to see Taj run for 1000 yards

I don't see that ever happening, he's not even listed as a RB anymore and he never has figured out how to run between the tackles.jefflockie wrote:I'd love to see Taj run for 1000 yards
Don't know if anyone has noticed but Dye just ran for 340yds and 7 tds last game

Re: Who will be our feature running back next year?
I would have to say Verdell gets 10-15 carries, TBJ gets 10-15, CHL gets 3-6 and Taj gets 3-6. Verdell has great vision, balance, and decent size. He reminds me of Benoit in his HS highlights. An injury to Verdell would increase the workload for CHL. An injury to TBJ and/or Taj would bring Felix or Dye into the game. They are injured often so playing time for those 2 is almost a guarantee. That seems like a successful formula to me.
2019 might be Verdell 10-15, CHL 5-15, Felix 5-10 and Dye getting 3-6. Then see how recruiting plays out. If they get a JStew or Freeman type back I could see them pushing for carries immediately. If not I don't see anyone on the team or a recruit getting 20-30 carries.

I see a TBJ getting the focus with Felix, Verdell and Cyrus getting carries
