Oregon football players who also ran track

Post by 5$ »

Is there a comprehensive list of Oregon Football athletes that also participated in Track & Field? Below I've included a few names I can remember myself, and from a couple quick web searches. Can you help me add more? I'll update this OP with new names and info.

(in no particular order)

Jonathan Stewart (2007)
LaMichael James (2011)
Kenjon Barner (2012)
Samie Parker (2003)
De'Anthony Thomas (2013)
Jordan Kent (2006)
Devon Allen (2016)
Dior Mathis (2013)
Mel Renfro (1963)
JJ Birden (1987)
Ronnie Harris (1992)
Patrick Johnson (1997)

--

Tony Brooks-James (2018)
Charles Nelson (2017)

--

BJ Kelley (2014)
Muhammad Oliver (1992)
Latin Berry (1989)
Vince Goldsmith (1981)
Don Coleman (1979)
Russ Francis (1974)
Mike Gaechter (1962)
Jerry Tarr (1962)
Roscoe Cook (1961)
Jack Morris (1958)
Emery Barnes (1953)
Ed Moeller (1931)

Latin Berry should be towards the top of the list. A four-time all-American in track and field, and a three-year starter in football

Does not belong on this list. He was a track athlete (and bball) who played football. He didn't start on a football scholarship but he did end on one.

Russ Francis, Vince Goldsmith, Don Coleman, and Mel Renfro. Jerry Tarr also participated in both sports but as a two time NCAA hurdles champion and a member of a world record setting Oregon relay team(with Mel Renfro) he may have been brought in by Bowerman rather than Len Casanova. Of course this was before the advent of spring practice and year round training.

I disagree since the premise was “Oregon Football athletes that also participated in Track & Field”. I see nothing of the qualifiers you assigned.
Besides, Kent played in the NFL. That’s better than most Oregon football players.

Jordan Kent absolutely belongs on the list, that's why he was on the OP original list (before edits).

Haha he ran the 60-meter-dash once at the MPSF Championships, so kind of a loose connection.
