This back and forth regarding Chris Miller is pretty funny. I don't think Miller is a good idea, but Alan is just throwing darts against a wall trying to rationalize against him. It's funny. No ill will Alan, I'm just amused.

Chris Miller is not a target.

It is always amusing to see all the posts about bringing back former players to coach just because they are former players. In the case of Miller there is some credence because he has been a successful
Coach in the high school ranks. I prefer they hire the best available candidate, not a former player just because it would look good.

HS football is as different from College football, as calculus is from basic math. And let's be honest, Miller didn't own HS football in Oregon, he was average. A good spot for him to start would be at a Portland St or as a QC guy for UO, not as a coach.

Well Oregon may have an analyst spot open as Danny Langsdorf is supposedly headed to Fresno State as their new OC.

Not throwing darts, just simply posting thoughts. As someone said Miller has done pretty good at the high school level, I agree. I trust Cristobal to hire the right person, if Miller came in I agree it should be at the GA spot. But overall I know he will not be joining the Ducks it was simply a thought I posted, not a wish....... not throwing darts

Miller also has coaching experience at the NFL level and was pretty well respected while there
The guy knows football. I'm not saying he'd be my #1 choice, but I don't discount the idea as freely as a few of you have.
For what it's worth, he himself said he's probably looking at a different level

From Oregonlive.com
Miller says the ideal situation is to coach an FCS or Division II college program, where he can recruit players from a three or four-state region. While returning to the NFL is also a possible, Miller thinks college is ideal because "coaching kids that are still impressionable that you can help mentor is kind of what my calling is."

The two ideas you threw out there were immediately rejected by posters who knew better. I'm just saying it looks funny when you say someone will be great then repeatedly disqualify him for reasons that aren't actually relevant. It seems you are trying to rationalize against your preference for some reason. Maybe throwing darts isn't the right analogy, but it's still amusing.

This is kind of an aside regarding Miller, but it was something I noticed a few months back on twitter. He posted something encouraging to an Oregon recruit, I can't remember who, and I just was kind of saddened. No response, no likes. Typically when a prominent person responds to some recruit it's a big deal to people and they typically garner a lot of extra likes. This guy was an all-time great Oregon QB, an NFL pro bowler, and he cares about the program - but at least in this case, no one noticed.

Just want a coach who can develop WR's as far as catching and running proper routes. The lack of development of our WR's this year was sad. Some could barely run routes. Johnson's response was MORE JUGGS MAcHINE!!!!

I wonder if Keenan Howry is in coaching...

“He’s taught us a lot,” Johnny Johnson said. “I’ve learned more in the months he’s been here than I have in the past two and a half years.”

Crazy what happens when you hire a coach that is a specialist. I can assure you that this year the WRs will be 10x better. Will there be drops? Yes but routes will be better, Drops less and drives longer. It will also help the defense by keeping them off the field.

I'm a West Linn fan, since my grandson played there. The only years they were extremely successful(runnerup and state championship) was because they were loaded with talent, as much as it was Miller coaching. Forsyth and Moldon were 4* and Tawa would have been at least a top 10 5* national recruit if he hadn't took baseball scholarship at Stanford. Bergeron would have been a wide receiver for Ducks had he not left. M. Johnson was all league LB at EWU as RSF. The list could go on. The last two years and those preceding that group WL has been somewhat mediocre. I love Miller and his wife as people. They are great. I remember him as an Oregon QB. He was good. I'm just not convinced he was a top high school coach.
