WR Coach Bouknight Out

Post by Phenom »

It was rumored since the winter that CMC was not a fan of his work ethic on the recruiting trail and that he was encouraged to find a job elsewhere. It looks like he might have landed in Kentucky.

The U of O posted a job opening:

Not surprising. Hope we get a solid replacement.

Kinda disappointing.

Just hired last year and our WR's improved a lot.

There were ’issues’ according to insiders. Don't know what they specifically were but according to some there were supposedly concerns about his ability to successfully recruit.

WRs: no block, no rock.

WR coaches: no recruit, you scoot.

I don’t think the issue was with Bo’s coaching. But WR is a pretty easy position to recruit, and he’s not a close. WR recruiting for 2021 is very important in 2020 and Mario has shown he only wants the most tenacious on his staff.

There apparently were questions about his work ethic and ability to recruit. He was supposedly encouraged to find a new job in Jan and that should come to a close soon. I expect another home-run hire to MC.

Kind of surprised we waited til spring practice to make these moves. Would've thought we'd want the new coach in place by now.

Bo cleaned out his office in Dec, but it took him this long to get another job. Mario has been looking for a WR coach for awhile now, expect something quickly.

Hoping for a wood here.

Well, Mario dropped the ball with Bouknight. It is one of the few examples of Mario making a poor hire, so hopefully it is an isolated incident. With Mario's rigorous interview process, I am surprised he didn't get an indication that Bouknight wouldn't be able/willing to recruit at the level required.

Aren't there two 5 star WR recruits in town this weekend? It would've been nice to have a WR coach for them.

Wasn't the disgruntled Prentice Gill also affiliated with the receivers?

I hope the pressure to produce recruiting results doesn't lead to an assistant trying to cut corners.
