Duck Men Preseason Rankings/Predictions

Post by Greenblood »

After northbeach's report of Lindy's ranking of the Ducks at #1 in another thread, I thought it made sense to have one thread as an obvious catchall for preseason rankings. So far we have Lindy's ranking them #1, SI has them at #4, I see that Athlon also has them at #4, and TSN has them at #5. Incredible stuff. It'll really be on the coaching staff and team to keep themselves focused in the face of all this praise. Of the two major collegiate sports, I've never seen such lofty expectations for the Ducks.

Who would have thought that we'd be here when Altman was hired? He took over a mess, created some of his own mess, and yet, in a fairly short period of time he has us in unprecedented territory.

As long as Brooks is relatively healthy I don't see why we can't meet the expectations this season. The talent and the coaching is obviously all there. Just need things to go our way.

I am really surprised a publication would rank the Ducks #1 with the current status of Brooks. This type of positive publicity should do nothing but help Altman recruit though.

I'm pretty sure what is written and predicted about Oregon in Lindy's was done WITHOUT knowledge of Brooks' injury, as I saw no reference to it. But, though the point can certainly be argued, if Brooks is back at 100% for the bulk of the season, which I don't think is an unreasonable expectation at this point, seems to me what Lindy's was basing its Duck predictions on is still valid.

#1 is incredible. There's little down that we have the best returning roster in the country. The only teams that will probably be ranked ahead of us is because of their big time incoming freshmen class.

By courtesy of Fansided, CBS Sports has them at #7 (http://www.cbssports.com/college-basket ... ng-begins/), and by courtesy of TK1 in another thread, Campus Sports has them #2 (http://campussports.net/2016/09/21/coll ... on-top-25/). CBS Sports also has them as one of the most "fun and entertaining" teams in the country: http://www.cbssports.com/college-basket ... ust-watch/

Have to think we'll be hearing about the start of practice within a week or two.

ESPN's No-Longer-Way-Too-Early rankings have the Ducks at #7. I suspect that they are only "down"(!) as far as they are here because of Brooks' injury.

Here's what 31 ESPN "experts" are predicting for their Final Four and national champ: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket ... -2016-2017.

I count 16 of them predicting the Ducks in the Final Four, three of whom (including Seth Greenberg) pick them to win it all. 21 pick Duke to win it all. Andy Katz doesn't have the Ducks in his final four, nor does Joe Lunardi (though he does have Arizona in) or Dick Vitale.
