Three #1 Seeds

Post by DuckMastaFunk »

If the Ducks win the NC there's a possibility they'll have to go through three #1 seeds in order to do it. Anyone remember the last time that happened (if ever)? Google was no help for me, but I'm guessing someone knows a stat site that would have this info.

Just answered my own question.

From wikipedia:
In 1997, Arizona achieved a record when it became the only team to beat three No. 1 seeds in a single tournament. Arizona (No. 4 seed) beat Kansas in its own Southeast region, then beat North Carolina in the Final Four and finally Kentucky in the Championship game. The most No. 1 seeds any team can face in the tournament is three (provided that the team itself is not a No. 1 seed, in which case it can only face two No. 1 seeds in the tournament).

It only took me apx 20 minutes. HAHA. I better go get some work done.

This one I knew, it's the last Pac-10/12 team to win a title, Arizona in 1997. They beat Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky.

Carmello's 2003 team went through 2 1's and a #2.
