Re: Arizona @ Oregon (Sat 7:15 pm ESPN)
Lots of people have criticized Rob Mullens for his contracts with Helfrich and Taggart but they pale in comparison to Arizona. According to the Daily Star they would owe Sean Miller $10 million even if (when?) he is fired for cause. Add that to the $6 million payout to Rodriguez plus lost NCAA Tournament revenue and the Athletic Department budget takes a huge hit.
Even if Arizona decided to fire Miller for cause, however, the cost to get rid of him will be overwhelming: $10 million.
Miller's contract says that the UA would owe him the balance of his base salary, even if he is fired for cause. Miller is under contract through the end of the 2022 season at a base salary of roughly $2.6 million per year. Miller would likely be on the hook for $300,000 in damages as spelled out by his contract.
Should Miller leave on his own, he'd owe the UA $500,000. It's possible, of course, that the two sides could negotiate some compromise to expedite matters.

On Gameday, Jay Bilas, Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams all said that they believe Sean Miller and Deandre Ayton will have no more involvement with Arizona basketball this season.

Just speculating, but I bet Miller demanded that lucrative firing for cause provision because he knew his shady practices could someday get exposed.maxduck wrote:Lots of people have criticized Rob Mullens for his contracts with Helfrich and Taggart but they pale in comparison to Arizona. Seems fishy the AD would sign off on a $10mil payout even with cause. I wonder how far up the fish is rotten? All the way up to the head?

Wow. Gonna be a pretty interesting game to watch. I wonder how it'll affect Arizona's play.

Miller told the team Friday that he would not coach tonight. No word, yet, on Ayton. For now, it looks like Ayton will play. Ducks will have to match the intensity of a team with a serious case of, "Us against the world now."

Arizona is shooting lights out right now, but I'd say some of that is because Oregon gives up so much height to their frontcourt and Oregon's press has been broken easily at times, allowing easy shots.

Ayton and Ristic are just killing Oregon's posts on the glass.

I hope we turn it and win. Shut up Walton and those commentators. You would think UA is the best team in basketball.

Ducks hanging in there in the 1st half. Game has been really intense with very palpable emotions. Oregon just has to maintain its cool though.

Ducks down only 6 at halftime. Ayton has beast on both ends of the court.
