This isn't good news (Bowen)

Post by maxduck »

Apparently Oregon assistant Tony Stubblefield spent a couple hours on the phone with Christian Dawkins, one of the defendants convicted in the basketball bribery case. Obviously talking isn't proof of a crime but it certainly will raise questions.

Way to go OLive, do all the investigative reporting for the NCAA who does not want this stuff to be made public.

Very true, the sad commentary is what coach/team wasn't on the phone with Dawkins?

I don't think it's bad news either.

Just to follow up:

Looks like Troy Brown's handler was involved with this guy, but no evidence the school ever made any payments or was connected in any way.

The fact that there was a proposed payment plan for Troy Brown is not good.

Well the article actually says there was no payment plan presented for Brown, simply a request for $5k to buy tickets to Mayweather fight.

"Troy Brown, who played one season at Oregon and was the No. 15 pick by the Wizards this year, wasn't going to receive monthly payments, according to Dawkins' proposal. But Dawkins did request $5,000 to purchase Floyd Mayweather fight tickets for Brown."

Let's also keep in mind that the article indicates a lot of what is stated was outlined in a "business plan" so who knows how far any of this actually got.

The NCAA won't find anything incriminating but will suspend us (and many others) a year of post-season play for some BS like failure to monitor.

This is where my head is at. The NCAA, largely because of their lack of true investigative power, ends up making decisions that are based still on a large amount of projection.

If it is us and many others, that will damage March Madne$$, and the NCAA doesn't want to do that.

They literally have ZERO connection to any Oregon coaches or anyone from the university at this point in terms of payment for players.

Altman and his staff said in their internal review interviews that they felt they were being used to drive up the price so Bowen could land at an Adidas school: https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/index ... iver_index

Reading that makes me feel better. Stubblefield saying that he knew Bowen wasn't coming to Oregon, and Altman saying Oregon doesn't do that and was being used as a pawn, is a good sign.
