WBB recruiting

Post by greenyellow »

Considering they'll have up to 8 scholarships open after this season and the success the team has had, it's surprising that the WBB staff is having a hard time finding many US HS players willing to commit in this class. This may be why Kelly Graves is continuing to target high-level international players. His first commit came from top Australian guard Jaz Shelley in October and now he's gotten a commitment from top British guard Holly Winterburn.

It is hard to figure why US players wouldn't be lining up to play for Oregon But, Graves is certainly making the best of it.

Meanwhile it sounds like OSU has been having a lot of success, signing two huge recruits today...

Both of whom Oregon was also recruiting and were part of their top 10s.

 Well... once Ionescu's class graduates, we might be in trouble against them.
I can't even imagine if some of the current players went to OSU in those close recruiting calls.

ducks get another Aussie Lucy Cochrane has signed a national letter of intent! The 6-foot-5 post is part of the Australian national team program.

Lucy helped Australia to a gold medal at the 2016 FIBA U17 Women's World Championships, along with fellow Oregon signee Jaz Shelley. In the semifinals against the US, Lucy grabbed nine boards and blocked four shots in a 73-60 win.

A shot blocker would really come in handy THIS year. That is the one piece this years team is missing. We seem to give up a ton of uncontested shots in the paint.

Jones picked Stanford over UConn and Oregon. That means, barring some coaching firings and players getting out of LOIs, Graves will not a sign a single member of the top 100 HS recruiting rankings. As it stands, next year's roster will be 5 American players and 6 international players. It makes no sense as to why no top US players are wanting to join up with Sabrina and Co. Beginning to wonder if maybe Graves has begun dipping into the international well too often and not doing enough to build up his ties with American HS prospects.
