2 more seasons of DT...

Post by woundedknees »

If he keeps improving, the thought makes one a little giddy!

181/297, 2373 yards (60.9 %), 7.99 YPA (13.11 YPC), 26 TDs/7 Ints/7 Sacks, for a 152.23 QB Rating.

All that in his first season as a starter!

Amazing that we can basically break in a new qb and go to the championship game.

I feel very comfortable with the combo of Thomas and Bennett, but beyond that it would be very shaky next season. Of course, most any team could say the same if they had to go that far down the QB depth chart. Hopefully the days of us needing to worry about 4th and 5th string QB to make it through a season are over for good.

It is great that DT is a better passer than Masoli and with LMJ and Barner in the backfield doesn't have to run as much and other than the last few games the line has done a good job at protecting him so he was able to go the whole regular season without getting injured, other than the minor thing in the WSU game. When you have a smart QB and better players that are more experienced you will have a reduction in injuries. Masoli didn't care, he would take punishment and that is why he got injured, but it was a minor, one game missed injury. Prior to last season Oregon didn't have the caliber of athletes or the experience in Chip's system and other than Dixon has not had the QB's to fit either and that is the biggest reason for the injuries more than the style of play. The 2007 season and early part of 2008 was a rarity and it is because the system was new and the types of players that fit the style of play were not in place. As for Nate Costa he just has bad knees or bad luck or a combo and no matter where he played probably would have had the same thing happen.

Believe it or not, those stats are better than what Joey had as a SR.

Thomas has been struggling a bit the last few games. He wasn't very sharp at Cal, and even against Arizona, he's had better games. His accuracy isn't as impressive as it was during the middle/early parts of the season. Hopefully the month rest will do him good.

I've been seeing the same thing to but I've wondered how much not having of has hurt him. Lt seems to make catch but also frees up other players with a great route or block. Plus when Thomas is in trouble it's easy to se a 6'6 guy across the middle.
