RE: Over-signing
Some programs have used "over-signing" on a regular enough basis to draw national attention, tying up recruits they may never use, among other things.
If a commit is forced to look elsewhere, after signing with a particular program, said student athlete loses a year of eligibility automatically, IIRC.
Unethical? Sure. And the HCAA will likely never change that rule.
Question is, how gullible does one have to be to go along with that program?

Can you really blame a kid that is offered a scholarship to play D1 football at the school of his dreams?woundedknees wrote:Some programs have used "over-signing" on a regular enough basis to draw national attention, tying up recruits they may never use, among other things.

They don't sign thinking they'll be the ones to fail.

To play devil’s advocate….a lot of teams over sign thinking that some may de-commit, go pro in another sport, get injured, etc. Just saying.

Bud may have left that off his list since they don't have a problem with non qualifiers @ LSU (or the SEC as perceived by others).UOducksTK1 wrote:And not qualifying. From what I understand we go by the minimum standard for qualifying y’all go by a higher standard. Hence why y’all get burnt more by it.
Last time we got burnt that I can remember is Lacy. He was originally a LSU commit but ended up at Bama after not qualifying. Not sure what they did to get him in because that kid was WAY off.

Re: RE: Over-signing
Considering a lot of those would never set foot on a college campus without being an athlete....I’m good with them using lower standards to get them in school and in the program. LSU has a 70% pass rate among the football guys. Considering you have a handful leaving early each class that is pretty darn good.Ahh, nothing like reveling in academic mediocrity!

70% pass rate in what field of studies? Some of our guys who "leave early" red-shirted and thus have completed 4 years on campus and have earned their degrees when they leave (as in LMJ and Thomas).

Re: RE: Over-signing
I’m not sure what the break down in degrees are. I know there was a lineman that had his masters in English when he left. Two of the guys leaving early this year, (Mo and Randle) both have only been on campus for 3 years thus no degree. There seems to always be at least one kid (like Ridley last year) that leaves with only three years on campus which is a big reasons our percentage is at 70%.goducks wrote:70% pass rate in what field of studies? Vandy almost NEVER has a kid leave before being there for 4 years, and they have higher standards to get in so it makes since that they are higher than us.
