96 Small Forwards

Post by Zyme »

Top 5 Small Forward Prospects:

Keith Van Horn C+ B- C- C+ C+ B

The forward out of Utah is one of the most balanced talents in this draft. He can hurt you from inside, outside and even down low. While he isn't Ray Allen from deep, Knight from midrange, or Camby from down low he bring a little from all of them to the table. At 6'10" he can play both forward positions and is relentless on the offensive boards. He played in the Mountain West and, while it was a down year, was one of the best players in the conference, walking away with all-conference and leauge MVP. Scout wonder if he can take his game to the next level and may need to find one of his skill and focus on it, his general approach may either be deadly or jack of all trades master of none.

Austin Croshere C+ C+ C C C+ A

Very good midrange threat out of Big East power Providence. He has an exceptional knack for hitting the mid range shot, and enough range to keep defensive matchups honest from deep. He is a decent, if not exceptional finisher down low. Great strength and at 6'9" easily has the tools to play both forward positons. Relentless on the offensive boards.

Steven Jackson C+ B- C- C C- A

Scouts were shocked when Jackson declared for the draft. While they agree he may have the highest upside of anyone at this point in the draft, they really thought he could use at least a couple of years in college to refine his game. They are concerned he may have the maturity to apply himself nor the ability to speed up to the pace of the NBA. You just do not see many high schoolers declaring, and for good reason. Their bodies change so much but if he can use his 3pt shot to good effect while the rest of his game comes together he has every chance to succeed.

Mark Hendrickson C C C- C+ C+ A

Defensive wing out of the Pac-10. He has a solid midrange game but could never get his 3 pointer to fall with regularity. For a wing, he is a very good rebounder and is very very strong. He has quick hands and should force a number of steals. He is very good at getting off of screens and scouts think he has plenty of room to grow.

Antoine Walker B- C+ C B C+ C

Very mature player out of Kentucky. He is a monster to deal with on the low blocks and a really good outside game to compliment this. He never really found his position, as he can play everything from the 3 to the 5 comfortably. He brings a very balanced approach to the defensive side of the ball and probably the best balance of defense in all three phases (on the wing, in transition and down low). Struggles from the line. Because he really never found a position he is comfortable playing in, scouts graded him down, they hoped he would pick one and kept trying to move between the SF and C groups during the combine.

Other Small Forward Prospects:

John Wallace C+ C C B- C B
Very good defender and very athletically gifted stretch 4 out of Syracuse. Solid, but not exceptional rebounder, he struggled against stonger matchups when trying to hold is ground.

Ray Owes C+ D+ D B- C B
Great strenght and good defender down low for a wing, poor free throw shooter.

Matt Steigenga B- D D+ C+ D+ A
Good finisher with very high potential, quite raw in most other facets of his game.

Jason Sasser B- D+ D- C+ C- B
He knows how to get teh ball in teh basket but may many worry that his injury history may hamstring him.

Darvin Ham C+ D D C+ C C
Decent defender, not a lot of potential left.
