1997 Power Forwards

Post by Brophdog88 »

Tim Duncan PF 6'10'' 248 21 B C C- B+ B A
With Duncan, you know exactly what you are going to get, and that is a very good thing. While not a very good athlete at all, Duncan is a very very smooth player all around. He is superb on the block, being both quite strong and a crafty finisher, and positions himself very well defensively, handling anything an opposing player can throw his way. His timing on shotblocking is pretty impressive considering his lack of speed, he reads well, and will make the play. Has some issues taking care of the ball, and his shot selection outside, well, he occasionally shoots the three, but isnt very good at it. Not going to blow you away with potential, of course, given he will come in and be a very very good starter right away, he doesnt need to.

Tim Thomas PF 6'9'' 230 20 C+ C+ C- C+ C A
Thomas is great at nothing. However, he is pretty solid at most every facet of the game, and more importantly, scouts feel he oozes potential, with some scouts believing he very well be a super star. To other scouts though, the question is not where the ceiling is, its the desire to reach that ceiling thats in question, combined with questions as to where he fits in at the next level. Slow for an SF, but doesn't rebound as well as you may want for a PF. A gamble, but one, given he desires to be great, that could pay off exponentially.

Chris Crawford PF 6'9'' 235 22 C+ C+ D C+ C+ A
Interesting player out of Marquette. Crawfoird is certainly a tweener, but unlike Tim, he shows a bit more of a desire on the glass, especially the offensive glass, he is a nightmare there. However, he is exceedingly slow, which likely rules out an ability to play SF, and he tends to shy away from contact on the block. D is solid, he isnt going to wow you, but quite solid, and Scouts think he has good upside.

Tony Battie PF 6'11'' 230 21 C+ C- D+ C+ C+ A
Battie is a solid player, but not a guy that is gonna wow you with any skill. Decent blocker, but nothing to write home about, tends to do it more with size than timing. Poor shooter, but very nice strength, and a willingness to use that strength to move his opponents around. Definitely needs time, would be a stretch to see him as a star, but he should be a useful player, especially if one gets him to focus a bit more on the defensive end.

Mo Taylor PF 6'9'' 265 21 B- C C C+ C A
Dunker extraordinaire, Mo lives above the rim, which is good, because below it, his game leaves a lot to be desired. A rough player offensively when he isnt dunking, struggles to handle the ball, poor on the block, but with a nice jump shot for his size, and shockingly quick for that 6'9 265lb frame. Easily quick enough to cover SF, and even slower SG's, but struggles with the mental side of perimeter D. Good passer for his size, questionable rebounder...likely the kind of guy that ends up playing at the 3 as a spark, but Scouts think he has potential.

Kebu Stewart PF 6'8'' 239 23 C+ D+ F+ C+ C A
Kebu has basically 0 experience playing the game of basketball, so understand why he is a draft prospect. Through the ROOF potential, but exceedingly poor basketball skills, combined with him being 23 means he is not a guy to take early. Any team taking Kebu is taking a flyer that he will be a player prior to his rookie deal expiring, and that may well be a large gamble. pretty strong, solid quicks for a SF, and shows promise as a defender, but offensively struggles.

I have to thank broph for doing this, he has no horse in the race and it really helps with a week 3 midterm staring at me this week.
