2004 SG's

Post by Brophdog88 »

Luke Jackson SG 6'7'' 215 23 C+ C+ C C+ C A: Jackson spent his time at Oregon being a force, the problem? His athleticism at the next level, specifically his quickness, causes concerns as to whether he can create offensively for himself. He is pretty strong for a SG, which is good, but he doesn't keep close to his man on the perimeter due to his need to keep his man in front of him, meaning he tends to struggle defending out there. He is a solid rebounder, and in college showed good shooting ability. Overall its just a matter of does his game translate, and with injury concerns his stock has been falling.

Shaun Livingston SG 6'7'' 182 19 C+ C- C+ C+ C A: (PG eligible) This will teach you to only look at PG's for Point guards. Livingston is a tweener, and ends up listed at SG for the draft previews, but is equally capable of both. If there is one guy with the possibility of being a star Point guard its him, but his outside game is his biggest knock, specifically, he will not shoot threes...ever, at all, do not expect him to fire from downtown even if he's open by 20 feet. The lack of spacing he will cause in your offense is a problem, what isn't? most of the rest of his game. He shows a knack for getting inside and finishing at the rim, he takes care of the ball, and given his size, he can matchup on most wings as well as guards. He isn't all that strong, but attacks the offensive glass with ferocity....though the defensive glass less so. He doesn't create many steals, and his midrange jumper is just ok. He has excellent potential though, its just, can you get past that complete lack of a three pointer.

Ben Gordon SG 6'2'' 195 21 C+ B D+ C+ D+ A: Gordon is a scorer, something you will find to be pretty evident in this crop of SG's. He shoots very well from outside and midrange, shows good quickness to cover the perimeter, though he consistently gets burned by anybody driving to the hole. However, he is pretty awful at taking care of the ball, and is in no way going to look to create for anybody other than himself WITH the ball. This isn't bad, he can score well enough you may want that. Scouts love Ben's shooting and overall scoring ability, they don't like his play style, and he can play lazy. If he puts it together though he could be a star.

Tony Allen SG 6'4'' 213 23 B C C- B- C B: Allen is an athletic defensive guy, who can finish at the rim, but otherwise is unremarkable. His outside game is questionable, with an ok jumper, but he likes to fall in love with that three at times and its poor. Je is a jack of all trades on defense right now, with a lean toward gambling for steals that leaves him vulnerable at times defensively. Being 23, his ceiling is pretty low.

Josh Childress SG 6'8'' 210 21 B C+ C B C+ D: Childress is a boom bust type player. Scouts hate his attitude, but love his talents otherwise. He shows ability to score inside, hit the midrange shot, handle the ball, play D, and rebound. He doesn't have any go to skill to start things off in the league, and at Stanford there were rumors of issues with the coaching staff, right up until he got booted prior to the NCAA tournament.

Kevin Martin SG 6'7'' 185 21 B- B- D+ C C- A: You want offense? Martin is the most gifted scorer here, in this class. He is strong to get to the rim, and finishes at the rim with regularity. His jump shot is good, his three point shot solid, and he is quick enough to handle the position. The concern is he played at a small school, so will this transition up a level, and thats not clear at this point. Defensively he was hidden regularly, though he claimed it was because he was exerting so much effort at the offensive end he felt it better not to chase other players around while in the game. Averaging 30+ ppg is no joke, even at a small school like Western Carolina.
