2004 PF's

Al Jefferson PF 6'9'' 265 18 C+ C- F+ C+ C+ A: Al Jefferson is a terrible athlete, lets get that out of the way early.. Oh, and he is a black hole offensively, you pass him the ball, its not coming back out, he is going to shoot, if it misses, he will go for the rebound...if he gets an offensive rebound, he will shoot again, it will not be going to any other player. Now, the second part. He actually shows a good set of post moves given he is just 18, and while his Jump Shot is nothing special, its not on the level of a Dwight, he can shoot a little from midrange, though, you are probably best not passing it to him there, because he will just shoot it. (nobody ever passed him the ball at the three point line, luckily, or he probably woulda shot there....) He isn't quick enough to be a face up guy, and is not much of a blocker, too slow to get to the ball, although he has instincts for finding it, he also is pretty short, and can't jump. He uses his size well on D though. Scouts like the kids upside a lot, but being just 18 and coming out of high school, it is always a gamble.

Torin Francis PF 6'10'' 240 21 B- C- D+ C+ C+ A: Athletic, with good explosiveness. Raw though, and unpredictable. (aka, boom bust)

Kris Humphries PF 6'9'' 235 19 C+ C- D+ C+ C+ B: Humphries is raw, like the numerous young prospects in this years drafts, he really doesnt do much that well right now, but is young enough that scouts see the ceiling as pretty high, and for Humphries that really isn't any different. He shows no major weaknesses, doing everything with some ability, and is strong enough to play well. Good rebounder at the offensive end, a good hustle player in general, but he really isn't going to give you anything while you are waiting on his development, more of a stash and wait player.

Anderson Varejão PF 6'10'' 230 22 C C C C+ B- A: Right now Varejao will earn his keep as a rebounding big, as he is already a pretty solid one. Unlike most 22 year old players though, Varejao has pretty limited experience, and scouts like that he shows a knack for picking things up quick. He has good strength, poor jumping, but is quick enough to keep up with most post players, and handles his footwork well defensively. He shows nice tough from midrange, but no desire to post up and score. He is more interested in defending his man straight up than trying to get the block. Scouts think he is smart and should be a starting big long term, more on the defensive side of the ball...at the least, he provides excellent backup minutes.

Kirk Snyder PF 6'6'' 220 21 C+ C+ C C+ C A: Snyder is more of a tweener, playing PF in college, but maybe not having the ability to handle that at the next level. Problem is, he really doesn't defend well on the perimeter, nor does he look to do anything statistically on D. He is a drive stopping big, which is the promise at PF, but at SF, he shows a decent inside game, and some outside promise. Poor rebounding SF even though. The transition to SF is most likely at the next level, Upside is not elite, but solid.
