2004 C's

Pavel Podkolzine C 7'5'' 303 19 C+ C C C+ C A: The Big man out of Russia is one of the most interesting prospects to ever come out. Despite his massive size, he moves like a guard, with superb quickness, he is an absolute force in the weight room, and has a great vertical. Add to this that he has range out to the three point line and uses his size pretty well? No wonder the guy is a prospect, and many would wonder why he is not the number one pick. Well, that comes down to one thing...he has 0 clue as to what he is doing on the basketball court. Despite his insane athleticism, he shies away from the post, he looks lost on the defensive side of the ball, and shows 0 instinct on the glass. With this kind of athleticism and size though, combined with his inexperience, he will get drafted, it will just be a matter of can he develop into something useful.

Dwight Howard C 6'10'' 225 18 B D+ D- C+ C+ A: Dwight comes out of high school as a possible favorite for #1 in most other years, and there are still small rumblings from scouts as to their wanting him over LeBron. These are usually dismissed in a Bowie over Jordan type manner, but don't let that dissuade you from drafting Dwight after LeBron, the kid has talent. He comes out a bit short on post moves sure, but he has learned how to use his strength and quickness at center to create for himself inside, meaning he actually does a pretty good job scoring down low. In the midrange, he has some major issies, and he does struggle with handling the ball, don't expect him to be a point Center at all. He plays nice Defense both in the post and shows promise as a shotblocker. Most importantly, he has a ton of room to grow, his ceiling is high, with comparisons to Shaq. The difference is, every high school player is a risk, while Shaq came out ready to play, but give Dwight time and he should, given his outstanding potential, turn into a special player.

Hamed Haddadi C 7'2'' 254 21 C C- C B C A: He's Big, and a pretty good defender, with great strength. Outside that? his game is really raw. He is a terrible athlete with little post ability to speak of. His rebounding is a bit questionable, he offers some promise as a good backup Big, and there is a chance he becomes a solid starter, but for the most part, his ceiling appears to be that of a bench defensive big.

Rafael Araujo C 6'11'' 250 22 B+ D+ D C- C B: Araujo knows one thing....how to get buckets down low. He isn't going to provide you with defense or rebounding, but, if you need a bench scorer? This is your guy, he shows a good set of post moves, is really strong, and really just provides a nice spark off the bench. He's pretty near his ceiling though.

Andris Biedrins C 6'11'' 240 18 C+ C+ D- B- C B: At just 18 Biedrins is of course raw. He offers strength for an outside oriented big, and actually shows promise as a defensive player. He has a three point shot which is promising, though really he is mediocre from the three point line into the post. The other thing is, he tends to fade back from the post, searching for that outside shot. It may be that he has too far to go to become a good player, but, he has a starting base of everything.

David Lee C 6'9'' 245 21 C+ C+ C- C C+ B: Lee looks underwhelming on paper, not a shocker really, as he is a poor athlete. He does however offer more than the surface shows, he is a crafty scorer down low, with a nice jump shot and rebounding skills. He extends range out to three, and has a pretty good work ethic, coaches love him, at Florida he was willing to accept any role thrown at him, even if it may have hurt his draft stock, which it seemingly did. He'll never be a defensive player, he is just too slow and small for that, but as an offensive player, he has a nice future.
