Re: Olympic trials live coverage
Add 2 more Ducks (that makes 9 on the US team) headed to Rio as Deajah Stevens and Jenna Prandini finish 2nd and 3rd in the women's 200m. Final event is the men's 1500m and there are 6 current or former Ducks in there. Oregon could possibly reach double digits.

Matt Centrowitz wins the 1500m. That's 10 Ducks headed to Rio.

It will be fun to see how many points all the Ducks score and see where the U of O would place as it's own nation.greenyellow wrote:Matt Centrowitz wins the 1500m. That's 10 Ducks headed to Rio.

Definitely a great showing by the Ducks, past and present, in these trials.

10 Ducks competing for the USA? Or does that include Brianne Theissen-Eaton (Canada), Claire Michel (Belgium), and others?

That's just on the Team USA. I think there's another 5 or 6 for Canada but I'm not sure about other countries.

Make it 11 as Ariana Washington was named to the relay pool for the 4x100 relay.

Oregon's 11 is the most on Team USA. The second most is Arkansas with just 6.UOducksTK1 wrote:Is that the most in Olympic T&F for any college?

I do think focusing on track does make sense for Allen. My only caveat is that I think it's possible he could be a decent pro football prospect IF he focused on football for a couple of years. And NFL football does seem to be just slightly more lucrative on average than track . (Also, note this O-Live piece: http://www.oregonlive.com/nfl/index.ssf ... iver_index.) But indeed, especially if he medals in Rio, why wouldn't he go pro in track sooner rather than later, at least after the 2016 football season?Duck24 wrote:I wouldn't count on him being a productive WR though. He's been focused on track for the last 7 months and likely hasn't been in the playbook or working with the QB's. Depending on how he does in the Olympics, wouldn't be surprised to see him focus on track and quit football. His time in the finals was the second tastes time in the world this year so why risk another catastrophic knee injury on a sport where he is a fringe pro prospect?Alan wrote:I'd be surprise if he missed, he'll be done with the olympics by fall camp.OregonFan4Life wrote:Off topic, but with Allen qualifying think he's less likely to play football this year? Not that I'd blame him, I'm super happy for him! That is awesome!

Either way, congrats to him and best of luck in Rio. His success should further help Oregon land those dual track/football guys in the future.

Being a dual-sport athlete has helped make Devon much more famous than he would have been if he simply ran track alone from the beginning. That will benefit him in terms of endorsements. From that perspective, even if Devon wants to do track full time in the future, it might make financial sense for him to continue excelling in both sports in college. Obviously, there are risks involved as well, so it isn't a clear cut, easy decision.

Hurdlers aren't known to get uber famous, unless they look like Lolo Jones.
