Duck Women: #10 Oregon v. #1 UConn (4:06 p.m. PT, ESPN)
Now it's the Duck women's turn in their Elite Eight matchup.
I assume most of us figure this will be the end of the road this year for the Ducks. Might well be. Hopefully Graves has their mindset right, that the only thing they're trying to do is advance (not, e.g., try to end some team's ridiculously long win-streak). I figure that the longer the Ducks can at least keep it close, the more their confidence will grow.
Probably grasping at straws here, but in addition to that narrow victory at Maryland earlier this year, UConn barely escaped Tulane, 63-60. But the only time at home (which is what this game is for them) it looks like they were challenged at all was a 66-55 victory over South Carolina, which I think was #6 at the time.

Oregon's gameplan is waaaaaay to rigid re: forcing the ball inside. UConn knows it's coming on every trip down the floor -- they're sliding over defenders to double-team the inlet pass, resulting in steals on seemingly every attempt. And when we do actually get the ball into the post... the double is already there! Results are errant shots or more steals.
What is it about stubbornness and Kelly coaches?
That said, Uconn is amazing, and we'd probably be losing anyway, but I'm kind of shocked that we spent so much of the half beating our heads against that wall.

Willie Taggart is a dick.

Expected, but great season and plenty to build off. UConn is just on another planet, no shame in losing big to them.
No gameplan would have made this any closer, UConn is too good for us. Plain and simple.

While that's true, our turnovers were beyond embarrassing. We were an offensive scheme one trick pony and UConn was so ready for it. I think we had 11 turnovers in the 1st quarter. Oh well, proud of the girls. They went further than any expected. The Elite 8 was simply over their young heads. Next year will be different.Ducks10 wrote:Expected, but great season and plenty to build off. UConn is just on another planet, no shame in losing big to them.
