Portland Trail Blazers 2017-18 Thread

Post by Greenblood »

Just figured a new season deserved a new thread.

Blazers destroy Suns 124-76, the most one-sided season-opening victory by any team in NBA history. Granted that the Suns are expected to be pretty lousy, but still, it was on the road and without McCollum. Can't complain.

Watched it to the end. It will be interesting to see the minute distribution when the 3 missing expected rotational players return. (Collins and CJ the next game).

If our garbage time close out unit includes Ed Davis and Swanigan it should be fun. The ball goes up and the scrum under the basket begins. Bodies will be pushed. Those 2 had a great 2nd quarter together, but as noted above when at full strength I don't know if that is a pairing we'll see a lot in the regular rotation. It sure was fun to watch last night.

Nice to see the offseason emphasis on defense paid off for at least one night. With no money and no legitimate shot at a high lotto pick, self-improvement is the only way this team will climb for the foreseeable future.

I know the Suns aren't very good, but the Blazers held them to 32% shooting, sub-80 points, and out-rebounded them 57-33 on their homecourt. This team will always be able to score, if they put in that kind of effort each game they'll do alright for themselves. I'm not saying the Blazers will BE a top 5, or top 10, defensive team when all is said and done, but NBA defense and rebounding seems 90% effort. Hopefully they keep at it.

Portland could actually get off to a pretty good start. @ Indiana, @ Milwaukee (Bucks will be tough), then 10 of the next 11 are at home.

offense, defense, strong bench, dominant road play ..... can they keep it up much longer?

The suspense is terrible .... I hope it lasts.

Phoenix played terrible, and the Pacers didn't have their starting center. Bucks will be our first real test. If we can start 3-0 on the road, that would be extremely impressive!

Not a bad road loss to the Bucks. Antetokounmpo gave quite a performance.

Next up is vs. the Pelicans Tuesday night, beginning that 10 of 11 at home stretch Thurston mentioned above.

They had a chance to win that game in Milwaukee. Don't know if I'd have Nurkich (sp?) taking that shot in that situation.

Nice to get that home opening win, no matter who it's against. Extends the Blazers' NBA home opener winning streak record.

Doc and the Clippers are in their heads. Not that LA should have had that timeout to advance the ball to mid-court but they played pretty poorly in the 1st half.

I haven't seen every game, but I've noticed:

-- Our 2nd quarters suck.

-- Late game execution is surprisingly bad. I can sort of write off the Milwaukee meltdown and file it under "The Greek Freak is Amazeballs" but the Clippers loss and last night's loss to the Jazz were horrifying exercises in putting games away.

-- Nurk will, hopefully, show up at some point this season.

Nurk actually played well against the Jazz, hopefully he can build on that.
