Florida, Tennessee close to hires
Sounds like Florida is close to hiring Dan Mullen and Tennessee is likely going to go with Greg Schiano. Mullen seems like a good hire for Florida but Schiano seems like a reach for the Vols.

I'm not sure which one of those is more underwhelming.

I think Mullens is a great get for Florida. Not sure what Tennessee is doing though...karlhungis wrote:I'm not sure which one of those is more underwhelming.

He was able to win at Mississippi State, which is notorious for being a tough place to coach. Going 69-46 there over the past 8 years isn't bad.

They fired a coach with a better record. I agree that it isn't bad but it also isn't great. I just don't understand the hire, or why Mullens would leave MSU for a job in the same conference.greenyellow wrote: Going 69-46 there over the past 8 years isn't bad.

Mullens vs bama 0-9 vs, lsu 2-7 vs., auburn 3-6, that's 5-22 as someone who dislikes UF I like the hire.karlhungis wrote:Why?desertfan wrote:I think Mullens is a great get for Florida.karlhungis wrote:I'm not sure which one of those is more underwhelming.

I think he is a really good coach to win as much as he has at Miss State. I think you can make a pretty compelling case that MSU is the toughest P5 job in the entire country when you factor it that its a small state school like OSU/Wazzu, but located in arguably the toughest division in college football. As a college football fan I would be excited to see what Mullens could do with the resources that he would have at his disposal at Gainesville, plus how he would fair against the softer SEC East.karlhungis wrote:Why?desertfan wrote:I think Mullens is a great get for Florida.karlhungis wrote:I'm not sure which one of those is more underwhelming.
And I think from Florida's perspective getting a proven commodity within the SEC at this point makes a lot of sense.

Tennessee fans aren't happy about Schiano:

Due to backlash, Schiano's deal may not be finalized.

Looks like the deal is dead. Clay Travis seemed to cause quite the uproar and then a bunch of legislators jumped in on it. Good luck getting a coach worth a damn to come after this. Even if Schiano was a bad potential hire, not got optics for a program trying to get back to the “good old days”.greenyellow wrote:Due to backlash, Schiano's deal may not be finalized.

Good for the Tennessee fans. Reporting is Schiano looked the other way while Sandusky raped kids at Penn State (allegedly he walked in on one). I wouldn't want him anywhere near a program I supported.

Especially in this current sexual abuse climate. They would be crazy to hire him.maxduck wrote:Good for the Tennessee fans. Reporting is Schiano looked the other way while Sandusky raped kids at Penn State (allegedly he walked in on one). I wouldn't want him anywhere near a program I supported.
