PAC-12 Officiating Scandal
Well, this is certainly a dumpster fire of a situation. Great scoop by Pete Thamel at Yahoo and as much as I’m not a fan of Jon Wilner, some pretty good analysis. This is bad. Like really really bad. This just feeds the narrative about Pac-12 officiating.

Well he did say he assumes they are doing their job when he was asked about it. Somebody that says assume to me as a response gets a followup.rockthief wrote: at least Larry Scott has things just right

One might wonder if anything comes out of this if USC and Washington might get nervous that the referees might actually call the game fairly and not matter what school you go to. I have seen numerous calls that ended up favoring USC that ended up not being called. This is just one that actually USC should have got but did not.

Scott really needs to get the officiating under control. The perception of ineptitude should have been dealt with years ago.

Re: PAC-12 Officiating Scandal
This tweet cracks me up for some reason. In theory, unbiased media, tell you early on in your tenure that officiating is a problem. 9 years later, a scandal breaks about officiating.
Scott needs to go. Bring someone in who isn’t a self described media executive and understands the importance of these issues. It’s normal for fans to bitch and moan about the officiating and yes, sometimes the calls are wrong. But officiating in the Pac-12 across all sports is a national joke and now you have what is essentially executive interference in the process that was installed to ensure the calls are correct. Makes you wonder how many other times this has occurred?

Re: PAC-12 Officiating Scandal
At this point they need to clean house because they are showing massive failures at player safety. We're not talking about off-sides or holding penalties here, we're talking about targeting to the helmet and this happened twice in one game without any ejections. Football is too dangerous for those involved with that kind of hitting to continue.

Unfortunately there's a "culture" on ineptitude in the PAC-12 especially around officiating. The only solution is going to be completely clean house and start over with new leadership and guidance

I don't know, a parent of a player could always file a lawsuit for negligence. We are a litigious society and nothing apparently moves a corporation to action like the threat of a lawsuit.EncinitasDuck wrote:Unfortunately there's a "culture" on ineptitude in the PAC-12 especially around officiating. Re: PAC-12 Officiating Scandal
From 2011, the early days of Scott's tenure.
New Pac-12 interim coordinator of officiating Mike Pereira has announced a number of changes, including the removal of 11 officials from the field, and the reassignment of a couple of others.
Last Month, Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott replaced Dave Cutaia, who had been coordinator of officiating for the last 3 years, with Pereira, who was formerly the NFL's vice president of officiating, and served last season as an on-air NFL rules analyst for FOX. Pereira was originally hired by the conference last October as an officiating consultant.
Cutaia, who was an official for 24 years before, had requested to step down from his coordinator role. Translation: Cutaia requested to be allowed to quit before being fired.
Wednesday, Pereira announced the removal of 11 officials who worked games last year, and the hiring of 16 new officials. The new faces were hired away from the Big 12, Mountain West and WAC to replace those who were dismissed, and one who retired.

Re: PAC-12 Officiating Scandal
Absurd. Scott and Dixon should be fired immediately.
Scott has been nothing but bad for the conference.
This is nearly unbelievable, this douchebag Dixon overturned a call because of personal preference, and Scott is covering for him. Completely unacceptable.
