Ed Dickson - John Mackey Award Semi-Finalists

Post by UOducksTK1 »

Dorin Dickerson, University of Pittsburgh
Ed Dickson, University of Oregon
Aaron Hernandez, University of Florida
Anthony McCoy, USC
Tony Moeaki, University of Iowa
Dennis Pitta, BYU
Kyle Rudolph, University of Notre Dame
Cody Slate, Marshall University

My top 3 in order: Pitta, Dickson, then Dickerson

Odds are Pitta wins unless Dickson has big games against Arizona and OSewe

I would be surprised if Dickson finishes in the top half of the semifinalists, let alone second.

Pitta – 45, 624, 5
Slate – 50, 607, 4
Henderson – 46, 571, 2
Dickerson – 43, 496, 10
Dickson – 37, 488, 5
McCoy – 17, 382, 1
Rudolph – 33, 364, 3
Moeaki – 26, 302, 4

Dickerson and Pitta are the only ones with better stats then Dickson. After that, I think you could easily make the argument he's the 3rd best TE right now. He's our leading receiver, which says a lot about how good he is.

And his blocking skills are top notch. I'm sure voters take that into consideration.

BYU is a pass oriented offense that utilizes the TE a lot and Pitt doesn't have a lot of playmakers. If Dickson were on one of those teams he would have better stats. Oregon is first off primarily a run oriented offense and Dickson is most often double teamed so Maehl, Paulson, Holland or Davis end up getting the ball. But most NFL analysts rate Dickson as the 2nd or 3rd rated NFL prospect behind McCoy and Pitta.

I would say Slate's stats are clearly better than Dickson's. Also, Henderson has more catches and yards than Dickson and plays for the top ranked team in the country. Because of the spread offense, I think voters will discount Dickson's ability to block.
