This one has to hurt. Martinez has done nothing but preach loyalty to the program, and apparently coaches gave some very recent interviews in which they praised him for staying. Seems like this caught everyone off-guard. Earlier I popped into an OSU Twitter space and it wasn't pretty.

I'm one who actually roots for Oregon State and I don't take pleasure in this. As a Duck fan, though, that early season trip to Corvallis just got a lot less dangerous. Martinez was the real deal. Doubt they'll be able to bring in anyone remotely as good as him.

If they're not able to retain a player they've offered $400K, they won't be able to hang onto many top level players as they head into a mainly MWC schedule.

The only thing that would keep good talent to play at a lower level is $$$. Unfortunately, low quality schedule/conference and low $$$ will often be coupled.

Interest, probably but with what we have on the roster, he would probably be a marginal upgrade/lateral move for a significant chunk of change.

I’ve seen he said they didn’t pay him what was promised. You can tell a guy whatever you want, but all that matters is cash in hand.
