Tony Woods to announce decision in "next couple of weeks"

Day One Notebook: Tony Woods ready to end process

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – The saga of Tony Woods seems to be nearing an end.

The former Wake Forest transfer and Louisville commit is on the verge of making a choice.

“He should be announcing his decision in the next couple of weeks,” said Norman Parker, Woods’ AAU coach with the Georgia Stars.

Parker said Kentucky, Texas, Cincinnati, Auburn, Texas Tech, Oregon and Xavier are the main schools in the mix, although other colleges have reached out.

Before Woods makes a decision, he needs to get his academics in order for the fall.

“He has to finish up a class,” Parker said. “All that other stuff is irrelevant if he doesn’t finish his course work.”

There were rumors recently that Woods committed to Texas, but Parker refused those reports, saying that Woods merely visited Texas – in addition to Kentucky.
So supposedly he committed to Oregon, but has he actually visited campus. I hope he doesn't stiff the coaching staff and end up at Texas.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

Lived with his dad in Louisville, KY - went to CC and worked full time at UPS.

Good to know. Thanks.

Hopefully, he's just waiting to officially announce that he's headed to Oregon after he passes his last class at CC.

And sat out the entire season, so that particular caveat is moot.

Tony Woods chooses to play for Oregon Ducks - ESPN es.pn/pRTUlz

Dismissed Wake Forest center Tony Woods decided to sign with Oregon, his AAU coach Norman Parker told ESPN.com Friday night -- a decision that will immediately help the Ducks compete for a potential top four finish in the inaugural Pac-12 in 2011-12.

Parker said Woods decided to go with Oregon after he learned that he could play immediately with the Ducks following his completion of his associate of arts degree and then admission into summer school next month.

Woods had visited with Louisville, Kentucky and Texas over the last few months but none of the three could admit Woods until December because they are on a semester system. Oregon is on the quarter system and doesn't start until September, allowing Woods to complete his academic requirements in a community college and then on campus.

Not sure if Katz is correct on the academic details from this article. If Woods is able to enroll in summer school at Oregon, then he would definitely be able to enroll in a school on the semester system. It looks like classes begin at Texas on August 24th. I think what Katz meant is that Woods would only be able to enroll in summer school at Oregon.

Another excellent pickup by Altman and his staff. Woods will have an opportunity to come in and potentially start. I would be thrilled if he could play 20 minutes per game and average 7/7/1. Woods will give the team a real defensive presence in the middle and another outstanding athlete.

I think Oregon now has a realistic shot of making the tournament this season (barring injuries).

I think it's become apparent that Dana Altman deals with street agents. Wonder how long it will be before Texas reports Altman to the NCAA.

Now that we've stolen Ashaolu and now Woods from them, it'll come any day now.

So he got kicked out for beating up his girlfriend in front of his 8 month old? Wow. I'm all for second chances but he will have to be on his best behavior at UO.

His girlfriend says that her mom was the one who got him in trouble, and she stands by him FWIW.
