The big question: Do the Ducks start out with Keudell, or do the save him for a tougher matchup?

I think you save him for the possible CSU-Fullerton game.

I think you have to. If you throw Keudell against Peay and have Reed lose the Fullerton game we are in serious trouble.

Go Gold, and if Keudell loses the Fullerton game at least you still have Reed.

i agree. the downside, however, is that keudell can't pitch twice if he goes in game two.

horton said today that he was seriously considering shaking up the rotation, giving reed or gold the friday start.

he isn't sure if thomas will be available. he did say tessar might very well pitch. that would be awesome, assuming he isn't too rusty.

If we can get 1 good game out of Tessar that just might save us if this regional goes to 4 games. Certainly doesn't hurt us if he can throw a good 5 innings.

Jeff Gold gets the start against Austin Peay's ace, Toney. Definitely a risk.

i'll play the role of contrarian.

i would have pitched keudell. jake reed is more than capable of beating fullerton on saturday. keudell would then be available for a potential monday game. jeff gold would then be going up against indiana state or austin peay's #3 starter on sunday, a game he should easily handle.

not saying we won't win tomorrow, or that it's a bad strategy. i just have faith in jake reed.

I wonder if Fullerton will hold out their ace for game 2 now.

to clarify my post above, i also wouldn't have minded reed pitching tomorrow. that still sets up keudell for fullerton, and gives gold the 'easiest' possible match-up for him.

but hey, if gold proves me wrong and blows through austin peay tomorrow i'll be thrilled to be wrong. again, not saying we won't win, we're just gambling (i think) unneccessarily.

honestly, i don't think there's much difference between their two top pitchers. dylan floro and graham weist both have stellar stuff and tiny era's. if we meet up saturday we'll see someone with ace-level stuff.
