Looks like it will be another close race between the US and China for the most gold medals. If the Wall Street Journal's projections are accurate, the US will nip China for the most gold medals and have a bit more of a comfortable cushion in overall medals.

Here is a quote from the article...
The Wall Street Journal's projections show Team U.S.A.'s 530 athletes should leave London with 40 gold medals and 108 overall, topping the Chinese, who are projected to collect 38 gold medals and 92 overall.

China gets a lot of those golds in events that somewhat lesser known and they've been historically and consistently good at.

I don't know how many medals the USA will end up with, but I just learned that we have a gal on the volleyball team named . . . . . . Destiny Hooker.

All chortles aside, she's pretty good, and we are wrecking South Korea.

Don't try Ping-Pong against the Chinese unless you are wearing safety goggles.

Yeah, Destinee is the LeBron James of women's volleyball. She is 6'4" and reportedly has a vertical leap of 42 inches. The US team will face the defending Olympic champion Brazil team on Tuesday. Should be a good matchup.

She was also a world-class high jumper at Texas and has only been playing volleyball full-time for the past 3 years. Scary to imagine how good she'll be now and possibly the next Olympics.

If you are tracking the medal count, China is outperforming expectations thus far in swimming while the US is a bit below expectations.

not wholly unexpected, considering he was going up against four of the best small forwards in the world at all times.

that, and he picked up a quick two fouls (and you only get five in international competition). france has argentina next.
