Phil Knight 2017 Tournament
Pretty far off, but apparently they have set up a 16 team tournament for the 80th birthday of Phil Knight. The list of teams is pretty impressive, and I suppose Oregon is guaranteed 3 games with these heavyweight programs. It will be held in Portland, so likely a Rose Garden event.
Hopefully we can be competitive against these guys in 5 years.
Teams:
Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Michigan State, Florida, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Georgetown, Stanford, Oregon, Butler, Xavier, Portland and Gonzaga
(Apparently 1 team is missing, perhaps Oregon State?)

We have no idea what the Oregon basketball team, or any of those other teams, will look like 5 years from now.

without question the greatest line-up for a preseason tourney, ever.

Re: Phil Knight 2017 Tournament
Looks like the event will be broken up into 2, 8-team tournaments since NCAA rules prohibit teams from the same conference playing in the same tournament.

That is a loaded group, should be fun. Hopefully Ducks a solid squad then, so we don't get pushed around.greenyellow wrote:Looks like the event will be broken up into 2, 8-team tournaments since NCAA rules prohibit teams from the same conference playing in the same tournament.

That line-up also looks to be an above-average Sweet 16 bracket, too.oregontrack wrote:without question the greatest line-up for a preseason tourney, ever.

Based on national success/relevancy and two teams per conference for the tourney I think Syracuse belongs there instead of Georgetown

However, John Thompson, former Georgetown coach and father of the current G-Town coach, is on the Nike Board of Directors.DarronThomas5 wrote:Based on national success/relevancy and two teams per conference for the tourney I think Syracuse belongs there instead of Georgetown

Their involvement now makes more sense to me.maxduck wrote:However, John Thompson, former Georgetown coach and father of the current G-Town coach, is on the Nike Board of Directors.DarronThomas5 wrote:Based on national success/relevancy and two teams per conference for the tourney I think Syracuse belongs there instead of Georgetown
