Re: Oregon @ Hawai'i (4 game series Fri-Mon)
game thread!
stoked for this. i think the only non-player/coach/family member more excited for the start of each season than i am is jerry allen, because he actually gets to go to hawaii every year.
we've gone 1-3, 2-2, and 3-1 in hawaii the last three years. if the patterns holds, we'll be off to a great start
the rainbows were decent last year, 30-25 overall and 10-8 in the WAC. didn't qualify for the postseason, but they certainly are no pushover, and playing on the islands is obviously a big edge.
they look like a left handed-dominant staff. junior jarrett awakara (7-6, 2.88) pitched well against us last year (2 runs/8 hits), but we won the game (sherfy's 13k/5 IP coming out party). they have a couple lefty relievers that look like they will make the jump to the rotation. matt sisto graduated, finally. he had our number. they don't have a lot of mashers, but neither do we. Their shortstop is probably their best returning bat.
we should win this series.

Re: Oregon @ Hawai'i (4 game series Fri-Mon)
A 4-0 start to the season would be great, however if we can do like last year and go 3-1, I think that would be a nice start to the season. They'd then come home for 4 games and I expect to go 3-1 then also, so a nice 6-2 start is what I'm thinking.... After that going on the road to Fullerton and then hosting Vandy, things will get tougher.

Is it known who is pitching for us these games?

after reed and jones, i'm not positive. i would imagine tessar, irvin, gold, and wiper would get the longest looks from horton, but there's not a lot to go off of yet.

Based on what I'm hearing, looks like Jones isn't 100% ready yet and won't be in rotation this weekend (though available for long relief). My guess for the rotation is Reed Friday, Thorpe on Saturday, Irvin Sunday and Gold Monday.
Go Ducks!

Re: Oregon @ Hawai'i (4 game series Fri-Mon)
I'm sure it's splitting "hairs", but I guess Gold (and Wiper who also might get the Monday start) have thrown better since coming back.
Beyond that, not sure there's really much difference. Who ever isn't starting of those, are probably first out of pen to be used in long relief if needed.
Who knows what'll happen. As long as all are healthy, I think they'll be fine.

Maybe Horton sees Tessar as a better long-relief guy than Gold? I know Gold was up-and-down in a starting role that he wasn't projected to have last year, but he did provide a lot of good innings.
Going to miss the Maehl Man

agreed, agreed. gold did a hell of a job last year, considering just that. i just wasn't sure if tessar's shoulder had become a nagging thing or not.

Some tweets from Adam Jude concerning the Ducks' lineup:
Soph RHP Jake Reed takes over as Oregon's Friday starter, followed by soph LHP Tommy Thorpe, frosh LHP Cole Irvin and jr RHP Jeff Gold.
Senior LHP Christian Jones, who had Tommy John surgery in February 2012, is scheduled to throw out of the bullpen vs. Hawaii.
Freshman Josh Graham has won the starting catching job. In a bit of a surprise, sounds like Scott Heineman will be Oregon's primary CF
