Oregon @ Cal State Fullerton (Fullerton wins series 2-1)
Game 1: L 2-8
Game 2: L 2-5
Game 3: W 9-1
Cal State Fullerton is really good this year. Undefeated, and have done so in style. They have only given up more than 2 runs twice (3 and 5). Whoever wins, it'll probably be a 2-1 series. Go Ducks!

Is this a score for the Portland game ---- or a call on Friday's game?RanDux wrote:Ducks win 3-1. Now at 7-1 on the season.

Re: Oregon @ Cal State Fullerton (3 game series Fri-Sun)
need a big bounce back weekend from our bats. no one should be hitting the panic button yet, but we've got a lot of proven performers who have gotten off to wicked slow starts.
payne 7/27 (.259 -- but 4 of those hits came in a single game on the islands)
thomas 6/31 (.194)
garlick 2/21 (.095)
hambright 1/28 (.036)
graham 1/16 (.063)
... these our our regulars. everybody but graham, who was obviously in high school this time last season, hit at least .265 in 2012. thomas led this team in batting average at .313. payne's still doing his thing -- getting plunked, taking walks -- but we're getting a lot of nothing from half the line-up. as i said, these are PROVEN performers, so we know they swing the lumber; they just need to shake it off.
i would suggest moving hambright down in the order. batting him 5th is just brutal, he didn't deserve to hit 5th even if he was posting last season's numbers. he's making it way too easy to pitch around healy. no reason to pitch to the guy if his protection has one hit all year, no?
that's really the only change i'd make at this point. i'd let most of these guys ride through their slumps. graham seems to be doing a stellar job behind the plate so he gets a little forgiveness, but i would not mind seeing some more of shaun chase.

The pitching and defense so far this season are amazing, but the hitting has left a lot to be desired. They really need to figure it out soon because they are likely to see much better pitching sooner rather than later.oregontrack wrote:need a big bounce back weekend from our bats. no one should be hitting the panic button yet, but we've got a lot of proven performers who have gotten off to wicked slow starts.

Re: Oregon @ Cal State Fullerton (3 game series Fri-Sun)
jake reed (1-1, 3.27) vs. thomas eshelman, fr (1-0, 0.0)
tommy thorpe (2-0, 0.75) justin garnza, fr (1-0, 0.67)
cole irvin (2-0, 2.40) grahamm weist, so (1-0, 2.02)
two very young rotations going at it, but both are crazy talented.
fullerton is legit. they beat the snot out of #14 tcu last weekend. we'll have to play very, very well to win this series.

The pitching cannot be stellar every game. The bats have to get going.
