Draft Contracts
So looking at basketball-reference, it is too difficult to gauge how many years some of the contracts are, so I'm willing to listen to some alternative ideas...
One idea I had was maybe a random generator for contracts?
Something like so:
1st rounders
2 6-year contract
5 5-year contracts
7 4-year contracts
8 3-year contracts
5 2-year contracts
3 1-year contracts
2nd rounders
1 6-year contract
6 5-year contracts
6 4-year contracts
6 3-year contracts
6 2-year contracts
5 1-year contracts
etc... Basically come up with options and randomly giving them out. Now of course at least for like the first through third round guys, we'd give bird years to expiring guys?
Interested to hear some ideas.

Re: Draft Contracts
It seems rough to do that after the fact, since people could draft first and end up with a guy on a 1 year contract, not knowing that's what they were taking.UOducksTK1 wrote:So looking at basketball-reference, it is too difficult to gauge how many years some of the contracts are, so I'm willing to listen to some alternative ideas...

Re: Draft Contracts
But at the same time you don't want the first year of FA to be littered with 3rd/4th tier players. Not fair to the teams that are trying to clear cap space.

Re: Draft Contracts
Which is why we should only have a few 1st/2nd round picks that are 1 year expiring contracts.
But exactly, we can't leave FA too dry, gotta balance it.
Random = fair too.
On top of that, FBB is pretty fair to players with bird years who get a max offer, will generally take that. I'd say 80% of the time, a player who gets offered max that has bird years gets resigned.

Yeah I don't think we'll find a system that will make everyone happy. I think a fair amount of teams are going to try and tank and then sign FA's and if there were not top FA's it would just seem a bit odd.

It will even out after about 5 years so you need to find a system that screws over the fewest number of people or causes the least number of problems, anything will cause problems.

Re: Draft Contracts
Thanks for the feedback guys, so we'll do something like that.
Now the other question, is what should contract amounts be? And ultimately, what should the salary cap be? Should we try to start with a low salary cap like in 1988? Or should we just set it to 45 million or something reasonable like that, and just have the contracts reflect that?

I say whatever is easiest for you to do. Is it easier for you set the cap higher like previous installments that we've done?UOducksTK1 wrote:Thanks for the feedback guys, so we'll do something like that.

Re: Draft Contracts
IDK honestly, I guess setting it to 45 and leaving at that would be easiest?lukeyrid13 wrote:I say whatever is easiest for you to do. Is it easier for you set the cap higher like previous installments that we've done?UOducksTK1 wrote:Thanks for the feedback guys, so we'll do something like that.
