Getting to Know

Post by Oregon Ownage »

The league is now 15 months old and throughout that time we have had GM's come and go (and some come back). But recently that has died down with a consistent core of GM's staying. We all have talked with the other GM's but do we really know each other? Some are friends off the board, but others have no idea who each other really are. We have GM's from all across the country (hell we maybe have an international GM?), all ages and backgrounds. I know that Pudge is the Magic GM and Goose is the Lakers but who are they and what are their thoughts on the league so far?

Location: Hampton Roads, Virginia (Allen Iverson, Mike Vick)
Occupation: Operations Manager for a Digital Marketing firm
Experience prior to DASL: Zero, I was a rookie
Best Moment in DASL: Getting to the 96 Conf finals
Worst Moment in DASL: Losing 3 straight in the 96 Conf finals
One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: Taking Steve Kerr as my first pick in the creation draft. As I said I was a rookie so I had no idea what I was doing and took the player I knew about.
Player most looking forward to: Yao Ming
Favorite NBA team: Mavericks :)
How did you come across the league: Saw TK's post and thought why not
Suggestion idea(s) for league: Draft previews throughout season. Zyme if you do not have the time maybe someone else can take it over?

Location: Beaverton, Oregon
Occupation: Mailman for USPS
Experience: I have done about 10 seasons total prior to this. 6-7 in a league that Broph ran and 3-4 in a league run by Mops
Best moment in DASL: Winning the first of my 2 titles in DASL

Worst moment in DASL: Losing to the Warriors in our inaugural season.

One regret: Trading Hakeem. I for some reason thought he would decline.

Player most looking forward to: Lebron. His ratings will be insane I'm sure

Favorite NBA team: Blazers

How did you come across the league: TK texted me asking if I'd want to help him run a league( he does 95% of it really).

Suggestions for the league: More 10 day sims and draft profiles up a few days prior to the draft.

Best Moment in DASL: Getting to the finals last season.

Worst Moment in DASL: Tanking for 3 straight seasons

One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: Probably should've offered Barros more

Player most looking forward to: LeBron James

Favorite NBA team: Whatever team Vince Carter is on. Also, got a soft spot for the Spurs.

How did you come across the league: I think I saw lukey post on the RealGM forums.

Suggestion idea(s) for league: 10 day sims, draft previews, more articles.

Location: Ocala, Florida

Occupation: I.T. Tech

Experience: Zero aside from what I've gained in this league

Best moment in DASL: First year I made it into the playoffs. the league didn't have that many teams tanking back then.

Worst moment in DASL: Loosing in the first round of the playoffs to the Spurs last year.

One regret: Trading away Mitch Richmond so early in his career because I was scared he wouldn't resign

Player most looking forward to: I like Durant , should be fun

Favorite NBA team: Orlando Magic

How did you come across the league: TK posted about it and I was curious

Suggestions for the league: Write ups for the draft prospects would be nice but I know it's already a lot of work just putting the file together.

Experience prior to DASL: None.

Best moment in DASL: Winning the championship in 94.

Worst moment in DASL: Shaq getting injured for a big chunk of the season last year, resulting in an inability to figure out the proper DC in time.

One regret: Not giving Garnett the +3 camp last year.

Player most looking forward to: LeBron.

Favorite NBA team: Toronto Raptors.

How did you come across the league: Goose recruited me from MixMakers.

Suggestions for the league: I like the idea of picking up the pace a tad. I definitely understand RL takes priority though.

Best Moment in DASL: Having Malone his entire career.

Worst Moment in DASL: Playoffs

One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: Kenny Sky Walker in the second round of the initial draft. No idea what I was doing and he was horrible.

Player most looking forward to: 2003 draft class

Favorite NBA team: Blazers

How did you come across the league: Saw a post on DT

Suggestion idea(s) for league: Don't really have any. First league and it's been incredibly fun. If we keep going after this one runs it's course I'll definitely be back

Experience prior to DASL: Zero. Went into the creation draft completely blind.
Best Moment in DASL: Starting inaugural season 13-0
Worst Moment in DASL: Stepping down as Pistons GM
One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: Besides trading away Domnique Wilkins, Magic Johnson, Robert Parish, Clyde Drexler, Larry Nance, etc etc. Drafting Gary Payton and some random 2 guard instead of Derrick Coleman and Loy Vaught.
Player most looking forward to: Steph Curry
Favorite NBA team: Golden State Warriors
How did you come across the league: Original Heat GM invited me.
Suggestion idea(s) for league: More articles! Once school dies down, I'll be writing a lot just because I love writing.

Location: Eugene, OR.
Occupation: Enterprise Support engineer for Symantec.
Experience prior to DASL: I was in for a few seasons of one the old one's on here.
Best Moment in DASL: Finally getting Penny.
Worst Moment in DASL: My entire team dying at the end of last season after I had finally stopped being scared and made deals, thought I had a decent chance at the 'ship.
One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: Not trading the lakers their picks for Chuck back in the day, but in my defense I was hoarding for Penny cause that's the only thing I really wanted. I did some terrible drafting back in the day too, Kenny williams over Ced, Gugs over Horry.
Player most looking forward to: Penny Hardaway, oh wait he's on my team so I'll go with...Penny Hardaway :-)
Favorite NBA team: Orlando Magic
How did you come across the league: TK's post on DA.
Suggestion idea(s) for league: The Magic to win a championship ;-)...Something to limit tanking, just rough when over half the league is tanking.

Location: Portland, OR
Occupation: Accountant
Experience prior to DASL: A lot
Best Moment in DASL: 3-peat
Worst Moment in DASL: Losing in the conference finals almost every year for the first 3-4 seasons.
One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: hmmm...Probably rebuilding a little bit too early. Sprewell and Barros would have led me to a 4peat no doubt, but I wanted to change things up so I don't really regret it.
Player most looking forward to: Brandon Roy
Favorite NBA team: Blazers
How did you come across the league: I'm part of the DA group so I saw this advertised.
Suggestion idea(s) for league: I like it the way it is actually. I think there are a lot of GM's who could use some advice and shouldn't be hesistant to ask others for tips on how to do things,

Experience prior to DASL: Zero
Best Moment in DASL: My first draft. So far drafts are the most fun I have.
Worst Moment in DASL: Losing all the time, followed by losing all the time.
One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: I probably have given up players for too low a price due to my inexperience. I look at other deals and wonder how people are able to get so much trade value.
Player most looking forward to: Top Secret-I can't give up everything
Favorite NBA team: Blazers
How did you come across the league: Boyfriend
Suggestion idea(s) for league: I don't have anything to compare it too. I watched for a long time before I got talked into playing and now I enjoy it during my off time at work. I like it.

Experience prior to DASL: 0
Best Moment in DASL: Beating the Heat 1st Round last year
Worst Moment in DASL: Resigning a specific player on my roster not to be named
One regret/mistake: See above...
Player most looking forward to: I know it's pretty far off but Westbrook
Favorite NBA team: NO Pels
How did you come across the league: Mav's owner
Suggestion idea(s) for league: Penalty for tanking, just a little irritating when one hiccup happens to a team and people jump straight to tanking. I understand rebuilding but that only takes a year or two and it seems like 3/4 of the league is tanking every season. Another is I'd like to see managers being allowed to force retirement *cough* Cliff Robinson *cough*.

Best moment in DASL: Finally making the playoffs for the first time
Worst moment in DASL: Losing to the Pistons last year, close second is Mark Macon's rookie TC
One regret: Mark Macon
Player most looking forward to: Darko, because it would be awesome if he was an All-Star in DASL
Favorite NBA team: Heat
How did you come across the league: Mavs owner talked about it and it sounded interesting so when he told me a spot had opened up, I took it
Suggestions for the league: I like it the way it is

Location: Portland, OR
Occupation: Software Engineer
Experience prior to DASL: 13 years or so
Best Moment in DASL: Stealing Barkley from the LA show
Worst Moment in DASL: Getting one of my trades veto'd
One regret/mistake in player personal you wish you could take back: Signing Luther Wright
Player most looking forward to: LeBron, I'm curious how good he'll be here
Favorite NBA team: Blazers
How did you come across the league: Was bored, so I started it.
Suggestion idea(s) for league: Get a more active commish. Unfortunately my time here is limited. If this was back in the day, I'd be striving for more activity. But, maybe there's still little things we can do to makes things more fun.
